I left early on Thursday for my descent back into my hometown, the cold chilly city of Pittsburgh. That night, my friend who goes to Duquesne University, invited me out with her and her friends to go to the 3Lau concert at Club Diesel. Usually the club is over 21 on every night but Thursday, so this night was special for anyone above the age of 18. Whenever she told me that 3Lau would be performing, I got super excited because I had seen them once before this past summer at a music festival on Atlantic City Beach and they were amazing. I arrived home and grabbed a bag of clothes and the necessities to stay over her dorm room that night, hopped in my car, and drove down to Pittsburgh.…

The clearing was quiet, it seemed lifeless. The Salinas River still flowed merrily near the hillside, the water was still warm from the afternoon sun, and still reflected a green hue. On one side of the river, the smooth foothill slopes still curved up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, and the other side was still lined with trees. Willow and sycamore branches still swung gently in the wind, and the leaves still created a green light within the space. It was totally calm and peaceful… but something was wrong; the air seemed heavier, and the sun seemed dimmer, no animals stirred, and everything seemed to be aware of a deep sadness.…
