The teachers called my dad to come get me. I had to go to the dentist asap. When we got there, the dentist was a little surprised. The dentist told me my mouth was a complete piece of artwork. It took a long time for my mouth to be fixed.…
My Learning Style My learning style is auditory, it can help me learn because all I have to do is make sure I listen and more than likely I will succeed. Also, this will help me in sports because if I listen, then I will always know what to do. Such as, different plays and my teammates advice. In addition, I already read out loud.…
Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…
Upon entering my 1st grade classroom, students are welcomed into a multicultural, yet simple world. There are a few maps on the wall and a globe in a corner, and some family photos on my desk. A few simple plants, some with colorful flowers, are placed around the classroom. The seating arrangements include circular tables, with four-to-five students at each table, for work in groups.…
Different moments of our lives change us and shape us into the man or woman whom one day we will become. One moment that changed me was when I got my first instrument. Getting my first instrument was exciting, yet challenging at the same time. When I told my mom that I wanted to start playing music, I didn’t realize how hard it can truly be. I didn’t think of how much patience and time I would need to put into my practicing.…
I do not plan on transferring as most of my friends have, but I will to push myself to be proud of my decision I have made to stay at BC. I have gained, experience, knowledge, lost, and understand most things that I have been exposed to in my twenty years of life. One goal I have is pass the GKE (General Knowledge Exam). The first step would be to fully understand what the GKE is and what kind of tests I need to do to pass this exam. The second step would be to study as much as possible to ensure a passing score.…
This is a really big game. I'm ready for the game to start. It was my last soccer tournament against the hardest team, Mundelein. Tweet! The ref blew the whistle the game was as exciting as the Super Bowl.…
A girl at school once asked me, “How are you in this constant state of reading?” I laughed because the answer is simple: I love to read. I chose books as a symbol because reading and literature is very important to my culture and my family. When my father was young, his grandmother used to read to him every day, and my father did the same for my siblings and I. Ever since I was a little girl I have loved to read, and I own many books that I keep on shelves.…
Julia knew that Mom has never missed one of her lacrosse games or one of Jordan’s soccer games. The same could not be said about dad. Most of her memories were of seeing her mom in the bleachers wearing those fundraiser buttons with Julia picture on it, she has the same of Jordan for his soccer games. However he hates it when she turns into a side line cheerleader. “Julia, do you ever think that she gets tired of coming to all of your games?” says Jordan.…
It was the second game of the night. We had won the first game. They had a slow pitcher who was easy to get runs off which is basically why we won. But this was a new game. We were facing the Dallas Raiders which were very good.…
The Fellowship of the Game My inner life has always been filled with fantasy. My obsession with what could be; what might exist beyond the finite realm of perceived reality was first sparked when my father began reading Tolkien to me at bedtime. Many authors followed, and their visionary imaginations guided me to conceive of worlds beyond the scope of what was, to -what might be. Passive diversions, like reading books, and watching television allowed me to experience a reality beyond my conscious perception……
Starting with the first day we moved into our dorm we are greeted by new faces and take part in activities that would reserve a permanent place in our memories. Students arrived at Michigan State from different cities, different states, and even different countries, and we were placed in dorm rooms and worked to find our way to class. These students have different backgrounds and goals, and each had an idea for a career, but we all share the need to be able to communicate at a college level and writing is an excellent place to start. Michigan State requires completion of a college level writing course for all degrees and most students take WRA101, first year writing. The syllabus for this course states, “The goal of this course is to engage…
My path to literacy began when I was old enough for my mother, father, and older sisters to read to me. I began listening to books before I could speak, and I believe my exposure to books influenced my speech development because it expanded my vocabulary. Throughout elementary school, not only did I read often, but I also played various computer games that helped form my technological literacy; socialized with my family’s friends, which supported my social literacy; and spent much of my time at church, where I developed my spiritual literacy. As I entered middle school, I began as a homeschooled student. However, I transitioned to a private school in eighth grade and then to a public high school in ninth grade.…
Road to Literacy As a literate person, I could not begin to envision a world in which I could not read or write. Literacy is such a vital part of my life, it is the backbone to everything that I am. My life was forever changed the moment I read my first picture book. Literacy enables me to create, learn, and expand my horizons and gives me the ability to have a voice.…
I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…
