Personal Narrative: Key Club Outside Of School

Decent Essays
I my freshman and sophomore year other than key club I was also involved in SKILLS USA Culinary, which was a culinary club. Junior year, SKILLS club was cancelled so I was involved in Key club, National Honors Society, and Spanish Honors Society. Senior year in addition to the clubs mentioned above I am in Phi Alpha Theta and social action club. I am not involved in any clubs outside of school because on most days i have to go home watch my younger brothers, because both my parents are at work. Also this past summer I got a job, making it harder to be involved in more activities.

Reluctantly stumbling through a sea of all different walks of life, I tightly held on to my clunky lunch box as it bumped into every new face I passed. I scrambled around the intimidatingly large campus of Cypress Bay High School searching for my classroom. “Excuse me, do you happen to know where the 300’s building is?” I asked in a shaken voice, but no one seemed to hear me. It was as if everyone spoke a different language that I did not understand.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

Hi, Junior year so far has been a hell of a ride. First, I ended up switching groups during the beginning of the semester since I wanted to get away from high school drama since it was extremely involved in my other group. When I decided to move on and join this new group I felt it was a better choice for myself especially since I had to focus myself in my studies due to my workload. However, a certain person in the group is a bit of a rude obnoxious individual who seems to believe everything revolves around her, so as the days went by I developed the same sort of characteristics of being a tad annoying and mean to others. Once I realized I was developing a sense of pride for only myself and nothing for others I decided to have a little reality…

So, about three years ago, during fifth grade in my elementary school, my friend and I decided to break the rules. It didn’t take long before I made new friends. But once I had my “friend group” I would follow them around during the breaks.…
