Personal Narrative: Key Club International

Decent Essays
Key Club International profoundly changed my life, teaching me many of my core values. After my lost at convention, I was ecstatic to hear that I was appointed to oversee a district of over 13,500 members, and 300 clubs as the Membership Growth & Reactivation Chair of the Pacific Northwest District of Key Club International. I was able to gain a professional perspective from this prominent role, that was vital to the functions and logistics of clubs and membership experience in the largest geographic district of Key Club International.
Prior to this, I felt sabotaged by an election that I lost at District Convention. Having had to answer the dilemma of running for higher office for an organization that I was passionate about versus to jump

Core values are the things that inspire us, what we believe is important, and which is significance to us in life. My core values are commitment, fairness and respect for others, and to have trust and love for one another. My most important core value is to have honesty and love. Without love or trust there is no way to form a relationship with another person. For me, when I learned I could no longer trust or kind for someone; I had no feeling left for them.…

Throughout my high school career I have been deeply involved in many academic and extracurricular activities, holding leadership positions in several of said clubs or organizations. Here are the positions that are most important to me: Key Club Executive Board Member (2017-2018): Key Club is an internationally recognized service and leadership club in which high school students can become more involved in their own community, and the international community. As an executive board member of my school’s Key Club, I work very closely with my other board members to create several volunteer opportunities, develop deep connections with my local community, and find ways to get my school more involved with community service. In addition to these roles,…

As a member of a club called "The Best Buddies Club", our role as a member of the club was to be assigned a buddy whom suffered physical disabilities for a large majority of their life. Throughout my experience I had met many kids around my age with certain disabilities, and with that I learned about the lives lived by each and everyone of them. A few told me sorrowful stories of a time they were bullied either physically or verbally. It brought great disappointment to humanity as a whole, those kids were one of the sweetest I've ever met. This led our group and I to spread awareness with a motto of "spread the word to end the word", directed at abolishing the use of the word "retard" or as we called it "the r-word".…

Leadership is imperative to supporting the foundation of succession in our society. It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. That is why I believe mentoring and any position of leadership should be central to young adults to set the example for the impactful youth. I found my sphere of influence to be within the academic driven chapter of the National Honor Society which in my senior year I was elected president.…

The Key Club, an international service organization, provided me with the opportunity of establishing this influence in my community. Last year, we collected over $2,000 worth of toys during Operation Christmas Child, a service project that supplies toys to children in less opportune situations. As club vice president, I plan to expand the club’s potential, by conducting joint operated volunteer service with other Key Club charters and sponsor a Builder’s Club at our local elementary school to aid younger kids in their academics. I hope to bring these similar aspirations to the Florida State…

Ever since I was a kid, I always found a rhythm on things. Whenever I heard the heartbeat from a toy heart that my teacher had in her classroom, in my head I always added an extra beat to it, always turned it into something musical. I always thought it was because I used to watch the Nickelodeon kids show called “The Fresh Beat Band” every single day when I got home from school, so I let slide. I knew that wasn’t the real reason because it didn’t feel like it was, but I never looked deep into my abilities, never did anything with it no matter how big it was and no matter how it would change my life. At that time I thought I was a waste of talent because whenever I realized I was good at something I never really did anything about it, until one day.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

I joined Anchor Club as a follower. I attended my first club meeting with a friend and committed without hesitation. For years, I had been one of those people who would or wouldn’t do something based on the amount of friends I had participating in the same thing. By sophomore year, this began to change. By junior year, that part of me was almost nonexistent – and now, I find myself to be an entirely different person, not basing my own actions on others, and being confident in myself, encouraging new experiences of my own.…

When I grow up, I want to change the world! Changing the world one day would make me feel really good. Three ways I would change the world are: make sure everyone has a shelter to live in; help more lost, sick, and hurt animals, and make sure no one is hungry. I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

Making It to the Big Time I am Vincent Crabtree. When I was a freshman in High School, I participated in an activity called “Winter Percussion”. It was much like marching band, but it took place during the winter and spring season, and it featured a smaller ensemble composed mostly of percussive instruments. Throughout the season, we had practice almost nightly, working to put together a show that would be performed in competition with other drumlines.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Although I carried doubt and fear of running for such a respected role, I knew that to overcome my timidness, I had to take a stand and prove to myself that I could do what I never thought I could do. With motivation from club members and the club advisor, I ran for the position and took office as secretary of the Tempe High Key Club. In becoming an integral officer to the club, I acquired many speaking roles by supporting the club meetings and taking notes of other members ideas throughout the remainder of my freshman year. I attended my first Key Club District Convention in Albuquerque where I made numerous connections with students from other states and further enhanced my ability to present myself. In addition to meeting students at the convention, I met the International Trustee who had an extremely social and extroverted personality.…
