From Martin Luther King Jr. to Beyoncé there are a plethora of inspirational African-Americans. If I were to have lunch with an African-American of my choosing it would be Kevin Hart. Kevin Hart is very inspirational to me because he knows how to be himself. Kevin's humor can light up a room in seconds. I find it very motivational how he never fails to have a smile on his face. Even through hard times, like the passing of his beloved mother, he was able to keep his positive aura. It would be great to sit back relax and enjoy the hilarious afternoon with him.

When I first heard that we were going to be doing another speech I honestly was not happy about it at all because like many of you I was ready for school to be done for the summer. I began to think about it though and instantly I had three books that popped into my head and I thought that this assignment was not going to be hard. Al Green is known for his hit song “ Let’s Stay Together”, and for leaving his musical career at its height in the 1970s to become a reverend at his own church. Al Green was born Albert Greene on April 13,1946, in Dansby, a small town down the road from Forrest City Arkansas. He began performing at a young age, singing gospel music with his family as part of the Greene Brothers After being kicked out of the family home for listening to the secular music of Jackie Wilson, Green started a group called the Creations, which later became Al Greene and the Soul Mates. The Soul Mates had one hit,”Back Up Train”, which brought them to a successful appearance at New York City’s…

As a young child, my parents would tell me that reaching excellence has nothing to do with how someone looks, but with how they conduct and push themselves to greatness. Therefore, someone who has been an inspiration in my life was Frederick Douglass Patterson. This is a man who overcame many obstacles to attain the distinction of being the president of Tuskegee University, president of the Phelps Stokes Fund, the founder of the College Endowment Funding Plan, winner of the Presidential Medal of Honor, and many more. Dr. Patterson came from a shaky upbringing, being raised by countless family members due to the death of his parents at the age of two. Despite his rocky childhood and the racial slurs that followed him, he became passionate for…

Standing underneath the Friday night lights is always nerve-wracking, but this time it was even more so than normal. It was the first time I have ever performed on the football field as a majorette; which is a very big accomplishment for me. As the drum major calls the band to attention, I pose and try to calm myself down. When the band starts playing, I start performing, but the thing is that it was nothing like doing during practice. When I think about the boy who I was growing up, the young adult I am today, and the man I plan to be in the forthcoming years, one aspect of my life stands out to me far more radiantly than anything else: my culture, my skin, my identity as a Bangladeshi-American.
