Keep Your Eyes Closed
"Just keep your eyes closed." Somehow, while doing my sister Melanie's eye makeup, the eyeshadow missed her eyelid and made it into her eye. We don't usually wear makeup, but we had been invited to Mr. and Mrs. Swedel's Halloween Gala, which was a very formal event. It was extremely strenuous to be invited to. Mom insisted w e looked our best, and in Melanie's case would be quite difficult considering her costume was a bright blue butterfly (Which was immensely obnoxious, in my humble opinion). Once Melanie finally decided to cooperate, her makeup was done in no time, although it left me a bit less than 20 minutes to get ready.
"Meredith, Melanie, we're all ready. Now we're just

I finally got it, and our path was dimly lit.
We began our eerie walk to the first door on the left.
"You go in, and I'll be waiting right outside for you," I whispered to Melanie. She nodded, walked in, and locked the door. I thought I might as well look around since Melanie alw ays takes forever in the bathroom. As I looked around, I realized the Swedels might be hiding something. Ropes were sprawled around the floor, and little girl's dresses were neatly hung on thin metal rack. Not really everyday things to store in a basement.
I sat on a wooden chair, waiting for Melanie, when out of nowhere, I hear an ear shattering shriek come from the bathroom.

"Is everything... ok?" I ask her, and she simply nods. I grab her hand, and walk back up the stairs, saying nothing. The metal door is locked.
"Oh, my god. Oh my god. Oh, my god..." I said under my breath. Melanie sa t anxiously on the top step, and I tried my best to open the door. I stop when I hear heavy footsteps coming from

The sun’s burning rays beat down on us as we dug through the layers of Egyptian sand and rock. We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin.…

It gets stupidly hot in Danielsville, Louisiana, especially around summer. This would be fine I guess if we had something to do, to keep our mind off of the heat but there isn’t anything to do. Danielsville, Louisiana has three churches (Pentecostal), twice as many bars, one high school and no books stores or libraries. This means you’re either too drunk to read, or too Christian to read anything good. Big enough to have a mayor’s house, but not big enough to be on any map of any kind, it’s the kind of town where everyone knows your name and basically everything about you.…
