Personal Narrative: Keep Running

“ Keep going you can do it!” yelled my coach. I saw my coach standing on the side cheering us on, and I started running. I was exhausted but the finishing point was so close. Run! Just run as fast as you can! As I was running I felt something wet and slimy covering my legs, I tried my best to ignore it and keep running but it felt so gross I wanted to stop and check what it was. A few feet away from the finish line I sprinted and passed a couple of people, when I was finished I was proud I was able to keep running.

Last year when I signed up for cross country I wasn’t very good at running because I didn’t really run in elementary school. When the first week of cross country came and we did a bunch of drills, I felt like I was going to die.

The ground was all muddy and moist because it was raining there the day before. The worst part was that there was a bunch of poop scattered everywhere. I was nervous about the race because I really didn’t want to be the last one to finish. During the middle of the race I felt like I was going to die and I wanted to give up. I decided not to give up or else all my hard work at the practices were for nothing. I believed I could finish this with a decent time. As I jogged towards the end I started seeing people stop and just walk, which made me even more determined to beat them. A couple of 100 feet away from the finish line I heard my coach yell to keep going so I started to run faster. As I was running I felt something wet and slimy slightly splash onto my leg, which I really hoped it wasn’t poop. The finish line was so close and I saw a couple of people slowly jogging ahead of me so I sprinted right past them to the finish line. I was super exhausted but I was also proud that I finished with a decent time.

Running is now something I enjoy doing and sometimes do for run. After finishing the race with a decent time I still practice so I can get an even better time. I started off being a really slow runner and by the end of cross country I was able to improve by 2-3 minutes. Maybe I’ll keep practicing till I can run a mile under 7 minutes. The lesson learned is practice makes

From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…
