The ground was all muddy and moist because it was raining there the day before.The worst part was that there was a bunch of poop scattered everywhere. I was nervous about the race because I really didn’t want to be the last one to finish. During the middle of the race I felt like I was going to die and I wanted to give up. I decided not to give up or else all my hard work at the practices were for nothing. I believed I could finish this with a decent time. As I jogged towards the end I started seeing people stop and just walk, which made me even more determined to beat them. A couple of 100 feet away from the finish line I heard my coach yell to keep going so I started to run faster. As I was running I felt something wet and slimy slightly splash onto my leg, which I really hoped it wasn’t poop. The finish line was so close and I saw a couple of people slowly jogging ahead of me so I sprinted right past them to the finish line. I was super exhausted but I was also proud that I finished with a decent time.
Running is now something I enjoy doing and sometimes do for run. After finishing the race with a decent time I still practice so I can get an even better time. I started off being a really slow runner and by the end of cross country I was able to improve by 2-3 minutes. Maybe I’ll keep practicing till I can run a mile under 7 minutes.
