During my 8th grade year, I was going to Washington Jr. High and Academy I was still getting to know people there. I met a girl named Kayla and we became best friends, Kayla and I were always around each other like two peas in a pod but one day everything changed. My friend Natalie brought a Mexican candy to school and wouldn't give Kayla any this resulted in a argument between the two which irritated me but i kept quiet. A few minutes later Natalie stopped talking the argument was done for her but Kayla kept going, that triggered me and I yelled really loud at Kayla so she yelled back. Kayla wanted to fight but I walked away so I remained in school while she was suspended, we weren't friends anymore after that. We stayed away from each other

“Black Hair” by Gary Soto has a specific line that reminds me of what an average day in high school for me was like, “The days were dull. I did what there was to do from morning until the bell sounded”. I usually felt this way because, like Soto in his autobiographical story he felt alienated from everyone around him. I am about to tell you my story of a time in my life where I felt shunned by everyone.…

Everyone who had seen the argument wanted to know what was going to happen next, who was going to say something to her, and whether or not there was gong to be another fight. With just a few words, she had managed to offend 75% of our schools population, however, she seemed unfazed by the hurtful comments thrown her way. I was kind of envious of her ability to not care.
