Personal Narrative: Kairos XLV Defeat

One of my most recent and proudest accomplishments during my high school career has been being named the Rector, or head student leader, for the Kairos XLV retreat. Kairos, one of my favorite opportunities my high school offers, is a four-day retreat that gives students the chance to take a step back from their often hectic lives to become closer with God, with their peers, and with themselves. Last spring, I made one of the best decisions of my life and went on Kairos as a retreatant. I had such an amazing four days at the abbey as I was able to connect with my classmates and reflect on my life. I got so much out of my Kairos experience and all I wanted to do was help spread the love to others. During our first meeting, my fellow student leaders and I voted for one person to be the Rector—the one who is responsible for directing the faculty and leaders—and one person to be the Assistant Rector—the person who helps the Rector with various responsibilities. I was overcome with joy and anticipation when I was elected by my peers to be the Rector for the upcoming retreat. It was such an honor to know that my classmates saw leadership qualities in me that would help me do a good job leading the retreat. I soon realized that being named Rector came with a bunch of extra responsibilities and tasks for the retreat.
