Personal Narrative: Justinian

Just like before with incredible speed we left the moon and approached another heavenly body. The next planate or circle that I saw as during the ascent appeared to be Mercury which due to its extreme heat as Beatrice explained in her motherly voice is reserved for the Ambitious, which aspire fame and light. We landed on the surface of the body and it was hotter then anything that I had experienced back home. During my tour here I meet many great men but the one that hit closest to home was probably Emperor Justinian he introduced himself to me in regal form as” Caesar I was and am Justinian.” This brief exchange made me thin how his earthly titles have been stripped away in this place, but his personality remains even here in heaven. How does one become “immortal”? To answer that you’d have to pick a definition of immortal. For me that definition is to be remembered for many years to come, most likely not by millions of people, but by a few. In reading the Epic of Gilgamesh something dawned on me, what would I want to be remembered for if I died today? Seeing as I’ve never truly considered it, it took me a good while to determine the things I would want to be written into the history books for.…

My political career began in 1803 when I was elected to the Kentucky General Assembly then appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1806. I was Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams.…

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

The plague holds a unique place in history and has a tremendous influence on the development of modern civilizations. This work gives us an idea of what Justinian and Theodora might actually have been like, while giving us an insight to how Procopius could have been treated and his feelings towards the royal couple. Given that Procopius waited to write this piece until Justinian had died, we can assume that he was afraid of Justinian and what kind of backlash may occur if he wrote this piece at a time where Justinian could read it. The title in itself, ‘The Secret History” is representative how Procopius felt about Justinian and Theodora. This is a historical piece meant to give information about the past to different readers, and attaching the word secret in to title indicates that this history was meant to be kept private until the objects of the piece could no longer be involved.…

As hard as my relationship was with Thomas, I am grateful for what I learned from being with him. I learned that I am a strong and an independent person. I didn’t need him to make me feel secure and happy. According to Mendenhall (2014), intimacy dances work best when they support both people (Mendenhall, 2014b). I won’t sacrifice myself to a relationship again because the outcome will never make me happy.…

I honestly do not known if I would have stayed Catholic if I had lived in the late sixteenth century. I would have likely been baptized Catholic and more than likely have been poor. I would have bought indulgences to save myself and my loved ones. I would have never read the Bible and would not known what was happening during the mass. I think that I might have fallen for a different religion that said that I do not have to buy indulgences and that I could actually understand what was going on during mass.…

As women of the time were expected to remain silent and obedient, a confrontation by a woman would not have been received well. Beatrice was known for her tendency to offer a snarky argument, but she was aware that any argument she presented would not be taken into consideration. In order for her argument to have any real value, she would have to be a man, “It is a man’s office,” (4.1.264). Her desire to be a man in order to avenge her cousin demonstrates how little capacity women had to act on their own behalf. She would not have been expressing a desire to be a man if women had the same rights and liberties as men did.…
