Personal Narrative: Junior Rider

Decent Essays
Junior Rider: Lauren Kinley is a fantastic rider that I admire for her sportsmanship. In the past year, she has had one horse go lame (at Finals), one get sent to Michigan State, and one pass away. She has had everything go wrong that possibly could go wrong, and she keeps the most level head about it. She never pulls the sympathy card and never allows herself to be seen as a victim. Anything bad that happens to her is used as an excuse to get better at something, and unfortunately, she encounters bad things a lot. Obstacles she’s encountered have made her a rock hard rider and person. When I’m watching her show, I can’t help but hope that the judge picks the hardest medal test possible just because I know Lauren can rise to the challenge …show more content…
Sara really steps up as a groom and is able to manage riding as well. I’ve known Sara for over 8 years, we used to be at a different barn together and 5 years ago, and her kindness and dedication have never wavered. When I was 9 at my first lesson, Sara taught me how to tack up a horse, and later on, how to clean stalls and clean tack. Through all the years I’ve known her, she has been an outstanding teaching to me and young riders of all walks of life. Aside from being a fantastic person, I also admire Sara’s resilience in the face of her first fears. Her lease horse, Bella, coliced on schooling day of a Win-a-gin show, and instead of going home and crying about it, she didn’t leave Bella’s side. She rode with the horse and her owner to Michigan State, staying with her and checking in frequently. The next morning she returned to the show to groom without missing a beat, still on top of her game. She is impeccable. Sara is also incredibly considerate to other competitors. On an especially rainy and slippery day, she made sure the riders that rode after her knew where the especially slick parts of the course were and to take caution. She really does care for everyone and wants everyone to have a fair shot when competing, even if that means she is knocked out of the ribbons. Sara is an insanely fair, effervescent, and deserving rider. This award would be a great way to recognize her for the outstanding

Not so much about how she will perform but more on how well I've worked with her and if I've taught her what she needs to know and if it was enough for her to be ready to be at her first race. We are here for exhibition runs only tonight so I ease my thoughts by focusing on that. We are here for her to get used to the surroundings and the excitement of the barrel racing scenes. She has to get used to being around unfamiliar horses, so many new and loud noises, her first time in an indoor arena to ride, are just the beginning of the path ahead of us. Whenever I would began my race, leaving the alley- way headed towards the first barrel I never pushed my horse hard enough, which caused us to lose time. In order for me to fix the problem I had to go back into the practice pen and go over my fundamentals. When I went back over all of my fundamentals I figured out the problem. I grew apart from my barn; but I still kept the family I made by riding there. I slowly started to distance myself from the show atmosphere at the barn and started to go to a small family barn instead. The barn was nestled in the Blue Ridge foothills in Sedalia, Virginia. I grew an admiration for the towering appalachian mountains that acted as my ring borders instead of pieces of stained oak.…
