Personal Narrative: Julia's First Birthday

Decent Essays
It was a year ago today that my husband, Fred, decided that we should leave for Oregon. But I am not ready to leave until it is Julia's first birthday. Julia is our baby girl that died of malaria many months ago and I don't want to leave her quite yet. I feel that is right to leave this place full of diseases that had already done enough damage. After all I don't want Fred or any of our three kids, Jeremiah, Caroline, and Benjamin getting this. I feel so guilty leaving Julia but we need to at this point. Our two muscular oxen, Frank and Albert, will be pulling a prairie schooner including three kids and everything we are bringing from home. Jeremiah is our 16 year old who will marry Sue Mingo in Oregon once we both arrive. Caroline is our 11 year old daughter who is thriving in school and will eventually become a doctor. Last Benjamin our 4 year old son …show more content…
I have really made some great friendships with the people on my wagon train. Our family really seems to get along with the Dodge family. Our children love to play all of the time. I am really happy they are apart of our wagon train. When we made it to Independence it was packed. It had people everywhere and a terrible odor. We stayed on the outside of all of the rambunctiousness and only went to the Jorgensen General Store when we needed to. We bought another pair of oxen so we could take turns with them and not just weaken them until they can't go no more. We began to run low on some foods do we picked up a couple things to last us the rest of the trip. And I just can't believe we forgot hunting supplies. We didn't even grab a hunting knife! Thank god for John Grant’s family who let us borrow there's after they were done. Speaking of John Grant he has been phenomenal leader for this journey and I couldn't ask for anyone better. He is a very experienced farmer and a great help. We will be leaving Independence May 21, 1962 and hopefully end up in our destination

It was about 3:45 in the morning on a Sunday, where I found myself and my excited, wide-awake, good-looking boyfriend driving down a dark, eerie road to a hospital that was 61 miles away. Those 61 miles felt like light years to me I didn’t feel right all day today, I had a feeling deep down that my body was telling me that it was time. I was as nervous as I possibly could be, however, I had to remain completely calm because I could possibly be in labor and our first baby could arrive any time. So There I was, just Sitting there in that fast moving car, patiently waiting for the top of my big-ole belly to become super tight, tighter than a rubber band wrapped around your stomach 1000 times.…

Moreover, Julia lived in Berlin for 3 years and is currently living in Hong Kong. The fact that she can live in North America, Europe and Asia independently demonstrates her ability to successfully adapt to South American lifestyle.…
