My last two years of high school, I joined the Multi-Cultural Leadership Club, I was rather reluctant to be honest but I grew to love it. My first year in the club we started off with raising money to go to the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference, (CCLC), at Western Oregon University. The CCLC is a conference where schools all over the state come to encourage kids to continue their education. To raise money we did car washes, sold clam chowder, and sold raffle tickets where we raffled off donated gift cards from a wide range of restaurants in our community. We were all competitive, trying to sell as many tickets as possible. I am a very competitive person so the raffling was right up my alley, and if I remember correctly only one person sold more tickets than me. After they pulled the tickets a couple of the members, me included, had to count the money. There were a lot of bills and coins, so much that we were all little overwhelmed, so the president of the club and I came up with a process line, and it …show more content…
We had to do a project that helped one or more person in the community. My senior project was encouraging teens to volunteer thus I created a presentation for middle schoolers where I had copies of volunteer applications for many different organizations and a power point with many reasons why. I explain how it pushed me harder to work towards the health career from the experience gained at the

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

When one thinks of Iowa, one does not necessarily think of cultural diversity. The more and more I think about it as I have matured, it was exceedingly challenging to grow up as an Asian in my community. That is because I sometimes had trouble understanding the culture of others and my own culture at my young age. When I was younger, I found it very challenging to understand many of the things my peers and teachers were saying figuratively. For example, I had difficulty understanding jokes, so I took them literally and did not know they were joking.…

The life style in Ecuador was harsh and unpleasing but in the states life was so much more pleasurable with all the opportunities that are given me. The only problem is that people where closed minded.…

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals? I was playing soccer with my friends in my neighborhood just a normal day everything looked as usual. But while I was playing soccer I was hearing a noise, not knowing if I am the only one who is hearing I felt deluded for a moment and stopped playing soccer and headed to the direction where the noise was coming from.…

I've always loved different cultures and tried to surround myself in as many as possible however I could. This was usually me trying to learn on my own from the internet, music and movies, but I was still missing that X factor that really made me indulge in other cultures. As soon as I walked onto Swarthmore's campus I felt that X factor. Sitting in the info session and taking the tour, I truly felt at home. The small diverse campus allows for people of completely different backgrounds and cultures to have real relationships that they might not have even noticed anywhere else in the world.…

Personally, I have participated in transnational change. It was not necessary traditional business related however, it did pertain to training other countries military personnel. In my career, I have help train and work with the Georgian military personnel and Afghanistan national army personnel. Furthermore, my experience leads me to agree with your statement “Leading a transnational organization has enough challenges of its own but implementing changes to an already existing transnational organization has to be the most challenging job on the planet.” It is extremely difficult when training these individuals and we (US military personnel) have to take into consideration their cultures, the language barrier, simple lack of training and many…

I would describe my cultural identity as fairly mainstream, white, male, from a working class family, middle class, American born, and first generation college student Gen Xer. I am someone who holds traditional Christian values, but is not as conservative as say many from my parents’ generation. As mentioned, I grew up in a working class household in eastern WA. My family earned a living in agriculture; therefore, hard work was an important value for me from a young age. I shared my surrounding with mostly people of Hispanic ethnicity, who also valued hard work and traditional values, such as time with family.…

In modern times the world is more diverse and as a result, we are required to work with people that may be a little different from us. This is especially true for myself as I live in Houston, Texas one of the most diverse cities in the world.
