He said he does this to “keep the cobwebs out of his brain.” John is extremely alert and knowledgeable, despite his exterior appearance. He would periodically drift off onto tangents related to baseball. John informed me that he is a “die-hard Yankees fan.” He knows an abundant amount of information about the past and present members of the team. John took me on a brief tour of his home. There was a specific room that he wanted me to view. John’s music room includes his musical instruments, as well as his records. After he completes his puzzles and word searches, he spends the remainder of each day in this room. John’s favorite instrument is his saxophone, and he appreciates playing all types of music. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are his top vocalists that he listens to on his record player. The Big Band era was his favorite. John told me that “music makes life sparkle,” and it is such a large part of his life.
