Personal Narrative: Jacob

In Genesis 27, verse 35-36, “But he said, “Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.” Esau said, ‘Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!’” Jacob tricked his father into giving the blessing, that originally belonged to Esau, to himself. He did this out of self-gain. “37 Jacob, however, took fresh-cut branches from poplar, almond and plane trees and made white stripes on them by peeling the bark and exposing the white inner wood of the branches. 38 Then he placed the peeled branches in all the watering troughs, so that they would be directly in front of the flocks when they came to drink. When the flocks were in heat and came to drink, 39 they mated in front of the branches. They differ in minor ways and most I’m not comfortable sharing. One I could share is about growing up. I’m in the stage of “transition” in my life. In other words, I am a teenager. I can not be a kid again. Once I am an adult, it’s permanent. I will not be taken care for. I will not be someone else’s priority. Being a child, I wouldn’t have to have a worry or concern in the world. Tomorrow will be like every other: School and home, school and home. Everything is laid out in front of me by parents, teachers, et cetera. Once I am all grown up, I won’t feel any different. I won’t automatically feel like an “adult”. Once I’m all grown up I would be ready to take on the world because I would be an adult and adults know what they’re doing. Most, if not all, don’t. I will have to fend for my own. I will be my own person, rather than being the attached offspring of another person. I will have to feed myself, work for myself, and do everything else on my own. I wrestle with the fact that time is ongoing, and I will continue to age with

As a judge for Jacob’s case I have decided to put him under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and sentence him as a youth. First degree murder will be Mr. Ind’s charge. I have taken into account this young man’s age, home life, personal experiences, the abuse he suffered, and how he planned the murders. In perspective, first degree murder is a reasonable charge because of Jacob’s mental, and emotional state, as well as the plans that went into the crime. Some sentences I have given him include: prison for 8 years, and 2 years of probation, and 14 hours of community service every 2 weeks.…

At some point, Jacob went off with two devious people he met to explore, as well as locate, the peculiar children that his grandfather told him about before he died. “I weighed my options. I could tuck tail and follow my tormenters back to town, or I could go ahead alone and lie to dad about it. After four seconds of intense deliberation, I was one my way.” (Riggs 82).…

I interviewed an eighth grade student named Jorden Johnson, who currently attends Paul Robeson/Malcolm X Academy, located in Detroit. My reason behind choosing Jorden for this interview is simply because of the requirement to interview a student, which I am very glad he ended up being my interviewee. When I spoke to Jorden in regards to the interview, he did not sound very interested in the interview. However, I convinced him that this is simply just an interview to see what eight graders think when they are conducting problem. After, convincing him, he allowed me to interview him.…

Jacobs jolts from this nightmare, now in his mid-thirties, rough shaven. He sits at the edge of the bed in boxers, shooting down a few pills with a sip of Jack Daniels. He looks around his dim apartment with his gray curtains barely allowing the sunlight in. He stands up walking towards the bathroom, slapping on the television.…

Critical thinker, problem solver, well mannered, mature, caring, respectful, patient, and disciplined are all words I would use to describe myself, Matthew Jacob Taylor. I was not always like that I’ve had many experiences and help from amazing parents over the years to change my personality, world views, and emotions to what they are today. I’ve always felt older than the other students in my grade even thought I was one of the youngest in my class. What made me that way was working with my self-employed successful dad. He would take me to his work starting at age 4 telling me if I work hard and make the right choices the family business can be mine.…

The girl's head was covered with a fuzzy knitted had to hide the fact that it was completely void of hair underneath. Her eyes were shining with excitement and anticipation as she sat in her seat fidgeting with a huge toothy smile spread across her face. Today would be the first time she had left the hospital in weeks. When the car stopped the girl bounded out the door with a speed that belied her illness.…

Together, their heroic traits of bravery, strength, determination, and cunning helped them come up with a plan to defeat their enemy, the suitors who were at their house surrounding Penelope, Odysseus’ wife and Telemachus’ mother. A similar father/son relationship existed in the Bible between Joseph and Jacob who were separated for many years. Nearing the end of his life, Jacob asked his son Joseph: “If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, they hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,” (Genesis 47:29), which Joseph sore to him to bury him with his fathers out of Egypt. In the article written by Julie Beck entitled “When Are You Really an Adult?” she uses a series of true life accounts to attempt to define when a person becomes an adult and what defines adulthood. She begins with the real life example of Henry David Thoreau and catches the attention of the reader by leading them down the path that she is talking about a current day young man. However, when she reveals she is talking of a young man of years past it is obvious that many different generations struggle with the definition and thought of being an adult. Beck makes it clear that what defines being an adult is not clear, there is no black and white answer. There are many factors leading to whether a person feels they have become an adult.…

The transition from childhood to adulthood is inevitable. It is an experience that tests teenagers to their breaking points. Most adults cherish childhood innocence, as they have experience with an onerous adulthood. At a young age, parents teach their children that the world is a perfect, Utopian society. As children mature, they realize that the once ‘perfect world’ was nothing but a false, sugar-coated take on the harsh realities of life.…
