"The Wild still lingered in him and the wolf in him merely slept" (White Fang 234). These words were penned by yours truly, Jack London. Growing up I was in love with the wilderness, and was even more fond of the great stories that came with it. Experiences that will never be forgotten, that I have now passed on to the many generations to come. Nothing can take away from the breathtaking stories of the north, and the lessons that go along with them. In my short lived life, I was always on the lookout for adventure, and with my passion, great stories arose.

My family was constantly on the move, never calling any place "home" for very long. Before graduating from grammar school, we had lived in six different cities across California. My first experience with adventure began when I started working at the salmon cannery. I was saving up my money to buy myself a ship, The Razzle Dazzle. After purchasing this boat, I became an oyster pirate, marking my first true adventure, and I loved it. After a short while roaming the sea, I returned back to Oakland and finished my high school. After graduation, I was accepted to the University of California, Berkeley. While attending college, I was forced to drop out after a short first year due to financial situations. The year 1900 was a real success for me, I published my first big hit of a story, The Son of the Wolf ("Jack London"). This was also the year that I married my first wife, Bessie Maddern. There wasn't much love in this relationship; we both just wanted to pass our outstanding genes to have healthy, strong children. Bessie and I had two daughter, Joan and Bessie London. Joan, the older of the two, was born on January 15, 1901, and Bessie, was born shortly after, on October 20, 1902. After settling down with my family for a short while, I continued my passion and kept writing stories with adventurous plot lines. In 1903, I released The Call of the Wild, which went on to become my best selling book, selling millions of copies. This story really exemplified the true meaning of adventure. After four short years of marriage, Bessie and I loved no more. So in 1904, we decided to part ways, heading our separate directions. Later that year, I met my future wife, Charmian Kittredge London, whom I married in 1905. (Biography.com

Chris McCandless died, starving and alone in the Alaskan wilderness. His death sent shockwaves through the country, inspiring the book Into The Wild, by Jon Krakauer. Readers of Krakauer’s stirring novel have raised the question: was Chris McCandless unprepared for his escapade or did he merely suffer a cruel hand of fate? When the romance and mythology is removed from his story, it becomes clear that McCandless was in over his head from day one. Though he had enough confidence for 10 people and had survived on his own for months, McCandless’s lack of experience and extreme pride would be his downfall.…

Jack London, a writer who is known for his writing focused on wolves, was born on January 12, 1876 (Leal, N/A). By the time he was 30, he gained fame for his books Call of the Wild (1903) and The Sea Wolf (1904) (Leal N/A). At this point, the themes of wolves and exploring the lives of creatures in the wild were very prominent in London’s writing, so it came as no surprise that when he wrote White Fang in 1906, yet again centered around wolves (Leal N/A). However, this book was different, considered to be almost an antithesis to Call of the Wild. Whereas Call of the Wild explored the story of a domesticated dog returning to nature, White Fang centers around a wolf pup, for whom the novel is named, who is taken into an Inuit village and slowly but steadily changes with his surroundings.…

The novel, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer, is a riveting, cautionary tale about the death of Chris McCandless, a young man who embarks on a journey to Alaska to seek the truth of happiness through the solitude of nature and free himself from the constraints of society. No doubt, the ongoing theme throughout Krakauer’s novel is the dysfunctional father-son relationship between Chris and his dad. In fact, McCandless died before he had the chance to grow out of his anger. Into the Wild examines the fatal expedition of Chris McCandless as he breaks all ties from society and challenges his ability to survive in the wilderness. Through the use of primary sources, situational irony, and syntax, Krakauer thoroughly captures the compelling tragedy of Chris McCandless.…

The acclaimed author of “The Call of the Wild,” Jack London, has written several stories from the perspective of animals living in the wild. He has received much praise for his unique view on the thoughts and behaviors of animals, but he has also received backlash for this as well. Because of his portrayal of animal thought processes, London has been accused of being a “nature faker,” meaning that he gives human-like characteristics to the animal protagonists of his novels of whom, according to his naysayers, are undeserving of them. Given Jack London’s characterization of the protagonist in “The Call of the Wild,” Buck, and understanding of animal cognition gained through research, Jack London should not be considered a “nature faker” because animals have social intelligence and the ability to reason abstractly. Buck, the protagonist of “The Call of the Wild,” is portrayed as having complex thought processes.…
