In the early morning i went around telling people to get water and start undoing their tents.Surprisingly we ate, broke down our gear, and began our stretch circle forty minutes before the usual. We were off and it was a chilly morning.
A mile and a half into the trail it was all flat land. Then we made it to our first off trail path at fish creek. While being there i had to figure out how to get across the creek. I felt determined so i went first and in my attempted i fell right into the creek. My foot slipped on a mossy rock and my whole right side was

The trip to a camping site in the middle of a Pennsylvania forest- a trip I would never forget- lead me to the discovery of myself and my transition into adulthood. This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

As long as I can remember, even if the memories are just flashes from when I was a toddler, my parents have organized canoe races. One event in particular has by far the most impact on the local community and me personally, the “Adirondack Canoe Classic”, or “90 Miler”. As small children my sister, who is two years older, and I would have a babysitter that took us around to various pit stops over the three day event to cheer for my mother while she competed. My mother had a rule for my sister and I that we could not race in the event until strong enough to pull our own weight, so when she agreed to let my sister race at age 10, that became the age at which I could compete as well.…

Our counselors had to scope out where our campsite was, which they finally found by a exquisite blue lake. It felt so good to empty our packs and stretch. After waking at midnight to start our summit in order to beat the possible rainstorms, we were off to climb Mt. Massive, the second tallest mountain in Colorado. Climbing rocks with heavy backpacks, crossing rivers, bushwhacking about 3 and a half miles, and dealing with heavy winds that almost blew us over, we finally found the trail!…

Since December, I have been working hard on running an outdoor education trip called Advanced Survival. Through POST, the outdoor education program at my high school, last weekend I successfully led a group of 40 students on a multi-day backpacking trip teaching about survival skills and appreciation of nature. This trip took countless hours of planning and preparation but was well worth it as everyone had an excellent time, even those who had never backpacked previously. In addition, I have been preparing for the district Mock Trial competition that takes place this Saturday.…

My previous camping trips I have taken in the past years have been memorable and full of hardship. I consider myself a very outgoing and adventurous person, that is why I go on crazy trips. Canoeing is my preferred way of traveling when touring lakes and rivers such as the Boundary waters and the Flambeau river. Major disadvantage of canoes is that they weigh up to 85 pounds. The weight matters being when crossing land to get to the next lake the canoe goes on your shoulders to carry it.…
