“Mom! I’m gonna be late to school! Charley didn’t pick me up this morning, I need a ride or I’m not gonna go!” Sydney screamed angrily from the opposite side of the house. Johnelle got out of her bed sleepily and rushed to the kitchen while putting on her go-to black linen robe. It was 7:20, the time I wake up every morning to do my makeup and get ready for school. I got up, went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and came back to my room to sit down at my vanity. I began my everyday routine. …show more content…
“Mom! What’s wrong? What happened? Tell me, tell me, tell me!” I say as my heart beats faster and faster. “We’ve been robbed! We’ve been robbed! I thought something happened to you! Are you okay? Oh my god!” Johnelle and I both run into her room where I see the evidence. The dresser were all empty and thrown to the ground, her vanity drawers were empty and pills were everywhere. I went into the conjoining bathroom where I see her closet also empty and a mess. The police showed up 5 minutes later and right after came Michael. The police did the report, got fingerprints, and interviewed me and my mom. “The car license plate that you took the picture of was a stolen car, we were getting calls at the same time as when you called for the robbery. You could no longer hear her from the hallway with her 16 gold bangles from Neiman Marcus, now there was only 2 left. She went along everyday with the empty feeling on her fingers, there were no rings there. She now came in my room every morning to use my iPad because hers was gone. She borrowed my clothes when all of hers were taken. She got migraines everyday because her only glasses she liked were taken from her and she can’t go outside without them unless she wants a headache. Michael got sick until he could get his medication. He slept with fear and he woke up any time he heard a noise or my mom was breathing uneasily. Every night we lock our doors three times just to make sure no one could get in. My sister and I lock our room in the night. Sydney keeps a knife in her dresser and bathroom. When we see a man outside we run and close all the windows and watch him until he is gone. We don’t open the door, we don’t invite people into our home, and if we hear a noise that is a little bit frightening, we grab the bats we keep beside our beds as we sleep. The truth is, if someone wants into your home, they’re gonna get in, no matter how much you prevent it. If they want in, they will get
