Personal Narrative-It's Time To Walk On The Trail

Did you know bison can grow to 5 or 6 feet tall and can weigh up to 2,500 pounds? They are pretty huge animals, and they look even more ginormous when 3 of them are standing right in front of you. We were in Colorado at the time; enjoying the not unbelievably humid air (unlike Louisiana). We were staying at an RV park right next to an ATV trail; which we planned to ride our ATV on. The day after we got there, I was sitting outside around 4 or 5 PM, being bored when I decided to ask if I could ride the ATV down the trail a little ways. My dad told not to go by myself because of the dangerous wildlife, but I was feeling a little wild and decided to go out for a while anyway.
After making my way to the trail and riding down it a little ways I came to a huge mud puddle. I then happily drove through it and became thoroughly covered in cold sticky mud that smelled of rotten broccoli and cabbage. After that, I wasn’t in the best of moods so I decided to go back to the RV Park. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it

We have a really loud ATV and I didn’t turn it off when I turned around to dig through the container. I looked through the container for a good while but wasn’t able to find my phone. Aggravated, I spun around in my seat to find three huge bisons standing 10 feet from the ATV, staring straight at me.
Now keep in mind, I was all by myself, in the middle of nowhere, in an open ATV. A chill went down my spine. I was beyond scared; I was paralyzed with fear. And as these huge animals moved closer, all I could think of was that stupid State Farm Commercial where the people’s car got rammed by a bison and I am thinking, “Oh my gosh, I am going to die. I am about to become a grease spot.” And to make it worse, it was completely dark and overcast outside and a chilling breeze was blowing. I swear at that moment I thought I smelled a buffalo chicken

I looked over and saw a buck standing there, eating the frozen grass. I started shaking, thinking that I might actually shoot something within the next 10 minutes. I grabbed ahold of my gun and got prepared to shoot. My dad told me to pick a spot for me to shoot when the deer walks there, so I pick a big oak tree straight in front of me. The buck started walking toward the tree I picked, so I put my eye up to the scope, and gathered myself to shoot.…

Ever since my first backpacking trip 6 years ago, I’ve had an affinity for the Appalachian Trail. I’m constantly looking for excuses to mash our lives into the giant, 50 liter bags, and hit the trail for a few days. This past year, in early fall, I convinced my parents to don their sturdy boots and disappear into the wilds of bear state park with me for three days. We were dropped off at the top of Bear Mountain and, while my parents argued over directions, I wandered around the windswept ridge.…

I once went on a hike on the Appalachian Trail with my mother. We set off and it started to rain on the first day, and my mom began to complain. By the end of the day, I wanted to jump off the mountain before I pushed her off it. Suffice to say, we were not well-suited hiking partners, due to our different processes; my mother dealt with her grievances by talking about the cold. On the other hand, I was just as miserable, but I attempted to ignore the dismal weather.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
