Personal Narrative-It's Time To Take A Bike

Decent Essays
If we were taking a bike ride in the afternoon my dad, sister, and I would make our way uptown to the square where my dad would treat us to ice cream at Smokey Row. Then we would meander on the curves of the trail. Sometimes, I would bring a plastic bag with me and stop to pick up trash along the way. I have always appreciated how trees look and I hated seeing them covered in plastic and debris from the nearby highway. On nice summer days, we would also take our bikes to run errands instead of taking the car. In particular, I can remember riding our bikes to Walmart to pick up some non perishable grocery items. My dad balanced the shopping bags on both handles of his bike as we trekked behind him.

Starting off my day, I woke up from bed, gulped down some chow, and went back to sitting on my more than comfortable bed, reading the book of my future dreams: “Maximum Ride.” It was necessary to read this book, for a competition, called, Battle of the Books. Continuing on, the deeper I read into the book, the more hooked into the book I was.…

I took advantage of the moment and the Officer Jose Garcia took me to a mini tour of the area. During the wait a citizen came to make a report, Officer Garcia did not use codes but asked her some questions and said it was a lost property report. She went to report that she had lost her wallet, she had forgotten it on the bus, she realized that she had lost it a day later and she waited a week to report it.…

And the mode of transformation? Road bike, or in my case, an old mountain bike with road bike tires - a ridiculous frankenstein of a bike for such a serious commitment. Fourteen people and fourteen bicycles, a group appropriately dubbed Bike Across America, and myself included, an individual so very lucky to have been a part of it all. I signed up for the trip a naive…
