I went to dinner with some friends and usually I have to ask them to put their phones up, but I didn’t this time. I wanted to see how meanigful our conversations would be without phones versus with them; I can say they were a lot less meaningful. Everyone was talking to people, but not to the people they were with. They always had to answer that Snapchat or take that Buzzfeed quiz. When our food arrived they obviously put their phones down, but really they just talked about what they saw on their phone instead of having a conversation with each other. I learned that some people just can’t get out of their own world and that it takes someone reminding them to get off their phone to actually do it. You should just try to be in the moment the

There was really one section in They Say I Say book that really got me thinking, that section was “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” I really thought about this topic and I came to the conclusion, that not only is Google making us stupid, I think it is ruining our lives in general. Our lives are drastically different than those of the generations before us. I blame this change solely on the rise of technology. I would even argue that technology is in total control of our lives.…

I completely agree with you Marisa. I have been able to enjoy my time away from my phone especially after I moved to Drexel. It was a hassle to hang out with people all the time, so texting was a way to connect with them no matter how far away they were from me. I used to just text all my friends all day and we would have small talks that did not really have any real content. People are very informal through texts.…

Let me explain what I mean. First, people are using their phones when they are out in public with friends. Instead of talking face-to-face with their friends when they are out eating, they are texting them or not paying attention to them. Phones are ruining our relationships and we aren’t doing anything about it.…

One day i was at the movies with a friend and we were sitting next to this girl who was with her mom, she was on her phone for the beginning of the movie. Since her brightness of her phone was on, it was a big distraction towards the people sitting on each side of her and her mom. Her mom kept looking at her every time her daughter would pick up her phone so she told her to put it in her purse until the movie was over. As they got into the middle of the movie, her daughter kept asking questions about what happened in the beginning because of the distraction of her phone. Five minutes later when her mom went to get popcorn, she got her phone out of her purse and got back on it and her mom came back 10 minutes later to ask her what happened in the movie while she was gone but her daughter was to distracted by her phone, so she was unable to tell her.…

I was at my friend’s place and was totally amazed to spot that life has totally changed. Instead of living in the moment, we were busy updating their “snap chat stories” and uploading pictures on Facebook and Instagram. That’s when I realized that people have actually started worshipping their mobile phones. It has shattered the society and even I was a part of this ruined society. Internet has helped us in all aspects but everything has its negative side.…

Technology and lack of personal interaction in teens Technology is everywhere we look, technology has filled our homes, workplaces and our children’s schools. The world is drastically different for our children than it was for us growing up. A study by the International center for media and the public agenda (ICMPA) found that “most children and teens spend 75 percent of their waking lives with their eyes fixed on a screen.” Seventy five percent, how do they have time for anything else? The ICMPA also found “students who unplugged their electronics for a 24 hour period felt extremely lonely.”…

It seems more and more people are spending more and more time looking down at their phones than looking each other in the eye. You can 't walk into a room without seeing someone with a smart phone in their hand. They are staring at it, sharing a message with their friends or taking a picture. Even though we may be right next to someone, we feel the need to communicate with others not in the room. In today 's electronic age, texting, sending and receiving messages and images is the way we talk to each other, especially for young adults.…

This day in age, it’s really astonishing how much technology has grown in the amount of time we use it. In the dictionary, it defines disruptions as a “disturbance or problems that interrupt an event, activity, or process”. Although, a smartphone might not be a disruption in your life, it actually can be. Like the article states, people use smartphones to literally do everything to just go out to eat, from “dinner reservations; check in at the restaurant; take a picture of their food to share on Instagram; post on Twitter a joke they hear during the meal; review the restaurant on Yelp; then, finally, coordinate a ride home using Uber”. It’s really sad on how much we actually do use our devices.…

The Causes of Cell Phone Addiction Have you ever wondered what causes people to become addicted to using their cell phones? People in our world today have the tendency to look at their cell phones for new text messages or notifications from social media, whether they are eating at a restaurant, walking down a street, or riding the bus. The constant need to check our cell phones distracts us from our everyday lives with our friends and families when we do not give our full attention. Although cell phones are an important innovation that allows people to communicate remotely, it creates distraction on what is happening in reality. People turn to their cell phones as a way to avoid social interaction, boost their self-esteem, and use it as an…
