Personal Narrative-It's Time To Join The Military

Decent Essays
The base here was attacked by some hapless nips! I got my landing gears ruined and our flak is still deactivated! I don’t want to go into gum beating right now, but there are just too many BTOs trying to solve everything by themselves. Our best juice jerker is dead and our planes are wrecked! Our base is destroyed, furthermore, the Japanese soldiers committed suicide with their new “brilliant” strategy, the“kamikaze”. Guess I’ll have to do some bubble dancing before I go assaulting heinies again. This message is to let you know what’s happening out here and how lucky you are to not have joined the military. The US maintaining itself neutral is definitely because it is gaining a lot of money with the Lend-Lease Act, supplying all Ally countries. …show more content…

12 September, 1917 As I write this, the enemy is shelling the trench I’m sitting in. The enemy has been shelling us sporadically for the past several days. The enemy will shell us for several hours, then stop and then resume the shelling later. Heavy shelling has left the area surrounding the trench pock marked with craters.…

Dear Mother & Father Fromelles, France I am alive, but barely. Yesterday, we attacked at Fromelles. It was shambles, we must have lost more than 5,000 to those Fritz. I swear our commanders are bloody idiots. I’m writing to you from a cold, wet trench somewhere in the North of France.…

During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…

The flight to Panama was long and bumping as I flew aboard a C-141, this aircraft is no longer in service. As I departed the aircraft, I was met by oppressive heat and humidity. As I looked around my new surroundings, I could not help but think that it looked as if someone had laid a giant green carpet over the landscape. It was definitely the most beautiful country that I had seen and, in my opinion it still is. The tarmac was busy with all kinds of activity going on.…

    1. Explain the reasons for U.S. neutrality during the 1920s and 1930s. How did ideas about neutrality change during the period from the end of World War I to the passage of the Lend-Lease Act? It’s been months since I’ve written to you two. The war has been awful. All I hear are guns, explosions, and screaming and all I see are rats, barbed wire, and dead bodies. I heard gun fire all nights for the past weeks no sleep or rest. The trenches are small and it is hard to get food, I haven’t eating in days but hopefully tonight I will get a proper meal. At the start we got just a bit over a pound of meat and 8 ounces of vegetables a day. I watched a body explode inside the trench earlier today it must have been the rapid hot to cold changes that caused it. That is what triggered me to write to you, that poor man has a family or a friend wondering where he…

I didn't realize how different I was until I joined the military. I grew up thinking that it was normal to wake up on Saturday mornings at four am so that we can get groceries from the church. That we ate beans and rice for nearly every meal of the day. That some nights we would get a call from our family in Mexico or El Salvador about something terrible that had happened to one of my cousins. It wasn't until I talked to others outside of my city that I understood that I was alone in some of my experience compared to the new friends I made from Vermont, Michigan, Illinois and plenty of other states.…
