Personal Narrative-It's Time To Go Fishing

Improved Essays
On a Saturday morning, I woke up to my Dad knocking on my door and telling me to get ready to go fishing. I really did not expect this even though on the weekend, it’s mostly when I go fishing. Although, I planned on going to the park to play football and basketball. Meanwhile, I really loved going fishing so I was actually pretty pumped about this. I immediately got up and did my daily routine. I then proceeded to get all of the fishing gear ready with no thought about breakfast or eating at all.

It was around 8 AM, but we were planning to leave around 9:30 so I was planning way too early. I could’ve got some breakfast, but I was very locked in on the fishing gear. There was also a lot of preparation, especially if you needed to tie your rigs onto your fishing pole/line. After I finished all of that, it was 9 AM so it took me a whole hour to get prepared. My family was also getting food ready so we could take it to go and not have to stop and eat at a restaurant or order fast food.

Anyway, we had to go get bait so we stopped at a bait shop to pick up some packs of Nightcrawlers which were large worms that are really vital for catching Largemouth Bass which was our favorite species to fish for. After getting the bait, we hopped on the freeway and started driving to our destination. The destination was a place we call the “Tree Trunk” because of the tree trunk that is in the water, 10-15 from shore. It is located in the city of Isleton which is a small town near Sacramento. It took about an hour and a half to get there and almost every time we travel here, I always fall asleep. So, about 45 minutes into the drive, I finally felt hungry and got some food out of the bag that we packed and started to devour

I knew Red Lobster was a bad option. I wanted to go to Outback Steakhouse, but mom had her way, even on MY high school graduation. I was stuck, sitting in the booth, waitress staring at me for 15, 16, 17 seconds now. Sitting in my cap and gown, she asked again – “where are you going to college?” I’d prefer the Bloomin’ Onion to this any day of the week.…

We brought our fishing poles even though we didn’t think we were going to catch anything. The canal was very cold and there was no fish out that day but we still had fun. After a little while of fishing we continued our hike among the High Acre Creasent Trails. As Andrew and I were walking along the trails we came across a small pond and we hung out there and discussed our days and we met up with a few other friends. Once we got to the end of the trail we turned around and started back.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…

About every 15 minutes someone would catch a fish. We stayed on the boat for 6 hours, I caught 2 fish that day, and on the way back I lay down and went to sleep. When I woke up we went to a restaurant and ate for about 30 minutes, then we went home and took showers and went to bed. The next day we got up and ate breakfast. When we left there we got in the car and went to the beach, and swam for mostly the entire day.…

When we had gotten back to the house he went straight to work on firing up our charcoal grill so he could make dinner. (Grilling was something I had noticed he like to do to help take his mind off things.) Soon after, it wasn’t long before he seemed back to his old self, even joking about grilling up a couple of those cats from the cemetery and feeding them to the local dogs. I just ignored his lame attempt at being funny, electing to go to my room to retrieve my cell phone off its charger, and to my surprise, it had a voice message on it from Tucker, Owen, and Lettie. When I called them back I had gotten the tall-and-skinny on what had gone on in Saraland since I had left.…
