Throughout the week, I continued to file and archive Lowndes County closed cases. Tuesday I was tasked with administrative duties because there was no court. Nonetheless, on Thursday, I had was able to attend the calendar call. During that time, the attorneys give the judge updates on the status of their cases. We figured that my niece would have to see the error of her ways, get help, take classes, go to group therapy sessions, find a job and conquer her case plan. How long could that possibly take six months? The good news was that my sister who is the children’s Grandmother would be there to help us, getting the babies from daycare and coming home to help out while I juggled homework. We had it all planned out. My father, husband and I took turns taking my niece to her court dates and classes.…

I also felt that with each state having a myriad of laws that aren’t necessarily congruent with other states, let alone the federal government, would make it difficult if not impossible to have a single court. Therefore, with the way our system is set up, it is a necessity to have a multi-tiered court. When looking at the downside, I hadn’t contemplated the fact of jurisdictional conflict.…

The Arrival I had originally planned to travel to Rio on September 5th through September 12th. A perspicacious and experienced hunter named Rainsford accompanied me. It was nighttime when I first spotted land of any sort. It was vaguely visible and was opaque, so misty that even Rainsford couldn’t see it. Utterly tired, I began drifting off, dreaming of the adventures we were soon to face.…

Decision is the word I chose to explain my experiences of how I became and who I am. I want to be different from my brother, uncles and the rest of the family. I want to be an example for my Dad and Mom, even if my decisions are hard to take, because I can remember the first conversation with my Mom about dropping out of school and explaining why I have to do that, how I was going to deal with that decision and asking her to support my decision so she can help me explain it to my Dad. Well, the conversation with my Mom was so easy always, never forget how Mom is so understandable she always help me alot…

Legal and Ethical Issue Awareness I was able to acquire knowledge and skills on how to write a contract and budget, the overall cycle of presenting it to the owner and how to appropriately negotiate and assign risk. While I did not work directly with risk management and ethical issues, I gained some experience in contracts. When I first arrived to my internship, they were in the process of assisting in the designing of the hospital expansion. Therefore they were continuously keeping track of how much various things might cost the owner, and beginning the contract to ensure that everything necessary was outlined in the contract. This included the listing the items excluded by the contract, the budget summary showing where money was being spent and what was included in the contract.…

When I was a teenager I worked in a donut shop. It so happened that the place was sold to a family and was not a corporately owned. In the hope of saving money, they decided to cut labor and asked the hostess’ to do all the cleaning, including the washrooms. The age I was at cleaning was not my cup of tea, therefore, I made it clear to the owners I will do everything else, but clean the washrooms, as I don’t even do that at home, and my mom wouldn’t even let me. The owner’s reply was, “you people should be used to that kind of work, what do you mean you can’t do it,” and a whole lot of other inappropriate things that I won’t get into.…

Much of my attention is directed at advising students and ensuring students take the appropriate courses so they graduate on time. The second arduous job related function of my job involves keeping students engaged in the coursework and not quit because they feel the work is difficult. This is a real concern, which affects completion rates if students become disinterested in some aspect of the Criminal Justice curriculum. I accomplish both of the above tasks through current assignments that captures realistic work the students would experience in the Criminal Justice profession.…

For the past year, I have hidden behind a wall of insecurity. Being a Mexican-American in today's politically charged society has separated me from the rest of the country. It is now evident that racism is well and alive in our country and was merely concealed for years until now. Now, Mexicans and other various ethnic groups are oppressed daily and labeled as “unfit” and “unwanted”. As for Mexicans, President Donald Trump thinks he has a good solution.…

My moral distress dilemma took place Semester 3 in OB rotation. According to Elpern, E., Covert, B., & Kleinpell, R. (2015), “moral distress has been defined as painful feelings and/or psychological disequilibrium that occurs in situations in which the ethically right course of action is known but cannot be acted upon.” My moral dilemma began when I walked to the doctors’ lounge with my nurse to update the doctor about the cervix progression of my patient. The doctor bluntly said that the patient needed to hurry up because she needed to make a meeting on time. I was hoping the nurse was going to advocate for the patient and let her cervix progress on her own time…

When I entered the courtroom, the previous case was just beginning to conclude. I was very surprised at the routine nature of the hearings; defendants and legal advisors seemed to cycle in and out of the room and the benches, with little disruption. Unlike some television programs that depict major celebrations or periods of despair following a verdict/hearing, I found the process of going through cases to be fairly nondescript. Defendants were…
