Bears

Huge claws,
Powerful jaws,
He sends out a huge growl.
He lives in the caves,
Bothering me for honey and attacking all the bees,
Trying to hunt me so all I do is send out a scream.
He isn’t very friendly and tries to claw me.
I find shelter in a large oak tree,
But then realize he can climb faster than me.
I soon figure out the only thing I can do is jump.
I try finding something to land in or on and see water.
As I jump in, I get out as fast as I can and run.
He jumps after me, and I don’t look back.
Once I find shelter again,
I hear large breaths and start to think, This is the end.
Then, suddenly, it stops.
I think I am safe, so I get out and look around.
Nothing.
It is completely silent.
I start walking, and
Just as I start to

This semester in English II pretty good. We learned about a lot of topics. However, the three that stuck out the most to me were the debate, the Hero’s Journey, and we read a book over the summer titled “The Secret Life of Bees” which taught me quite a bit about bees. So, those are the three things that will be covered. First and foremost, the the Debate.…

The dancing of the snow, the running of the wind, the Earth was so quiet, so very, very quiet, ever since the outbreak. The outbreak caused the death of nearly every individual on the face of the world. I was the last living man who was living in the last place, anyone would want to be- Mt. Everest. A human tendency is to run away from problems, no matter how big or small; in my case, I ran away as soon as possible on a helicopter to a place where I know for a fact that I will be safe; this idea was the only reason why I survived the outbreak. I was isolated from the rest of the world, and it was just me, myself, and I.…

Chop It All Off Two years ago, I had long, luscious, golden blonde hair that fell down to my waist, and I absolutely hated it. Everyone else seemed to love it, though, so I kept it. I dealt with the static, the lengthy drying time, and the hours of styling that I had dealt with ever since I was little, all because I wanted to be loved and accepted. I wanted to fit into the box of typical girls my age who all had the exact same haircut so that I would be considered “pretty” by the rest of my classmates, but I felt miserable in that box and I didn’t know how to escape.…

Three weeks ago my family was laying down dirt, and we had to take down a tree so we hooked a chain up to it, and there was a power line hooked up to the tree, but we did not notice it. When we pulled the tree down and the power line came down with it, so we called the electric company, and they came, and turned off the electricity. When the electric company came and turned off the electricity, they told us to be careful next time so we did, and we were extra careful so we did not, knock down any more power poles. After we got done laying down the dirt, we all got to drive the bobcat. It was fun, but we had a big responsibility of listening to what the parents were saying, and them telling us how to run the bobcat.…

Looking into a mirror, I don’t seem normal. My features come off as odd and stand out to me: like my lightly colored skin, high cheekbones, slight pixie nose, small lips, slightly crooked teeth, small eyes, brown hair, and brown eyes. All of these features are perceived to me as puzzle pieces that someone will eventually put together to form a masterpiece. While standing in my small, lilac colored bedroom, I glanced to the left towards my closet as I remembered my mother’s upcoming birthday, and I needed to complete her gift. I began looking through printed photos to find one that would fit perfectly in a frame saying "happiness".…

The global challenge that keeps me up at night is defending society from the “hive mind”: the limiting congregation of people’s minds around a single idea. Hive minds agree on certain issues, be it LGBTQ+ rights, immigration, or gun control. They consist of people who interact with similar people who reinforce those beliefs for the entirety of their lives which can lead to increasingly polarized and isolated political ideas. This problem affects the lives of people all around the world.…

As a child, I always expressed joy when we passed the seemingly giant factory located on the edge of my hometown. It was always a happy experience to witness the factory that produced the clouds for the sky. My eyes were met with wonderment when I say the giant white, billowing clouds produced from the smokestacks of the towering, majestic factory. However, I was always met with concern when the clouds weren’t coming out, and I deeply hoped the clouds would resume soon. I always nagged my parents about the factory, and would interrogate them thoroughly when the clouds stopped billowing out of the stacks.…

Ten people. I’ve been working here for four months and I only know the names of ten people. Out of every person in the Hamill City Police Department I can only muster up enough brainpower to keep ten names in my head. I can’t blame myself though, I was only supposed to be here a month before I went back to my home in New York, where being a detective doesn’t mean doing crossword puzzles to look busy all day. I came down here four months ago to help with a case, everyone was out of ideas and the pressure was rising, so they asked for a new set of eyes and got me.…
