After spending the first month of my summer playing video games, eating junk food, and binging Netflix shows, I wanted to do something fun while also helping the community. Brainstorming ideas, my mom recommended volunteering at a senior center. While I was not interested at first, I wanted to try new experiences as much as I possibly could. The patient I chose to be my geriatric patient is an active 81 year old man. For the sake of this project we will refer to him as Chaz. Looking at Chaz, you would never imagine that he is 81 years old. Since retiring, as an engineer from Cessna Aircraft, over 10 years ago, Chaz has been staying busy. Alexxis, After reading this summary, I think listening to this podcast would really benefit me! My grandmother that moved in with us about six months ago has Alzheimer's Disease. It's really challenging for her to keep up with her medications and we've found that recently she looks for every excuse to avoid going to the doctor even when she clearly knows she needs to. I think a big component of that is the fact that she recognizes she has trouble remembering things and it must be really discouraging for her. I think the point you made about having them write down main questions that need to be addressed would help her feel like she has some control and ensure she gets the answers she needs.…
After reading The Adult Learning Companion the two things that I have learned to be most valuable and effective for me going forward in my college career is time and studying. Time is important to me because, it can become challenging to find time to commit to doing school work after working 40 hours, taking kids to practice, going to sports game, cooking, cleaning and preparing for tomorrow’s work day. After all of this I just want to get in the bed to do it all again tomorrow therefore, time can definitely be a challenge. Going forwarded I will wake up an hour earlier to study before getting ready for work. In my daily interactions with my future followers, I would like to have a face to face interaction, or something personal. I intend to have an ‘open door policy’ even though I may not have a true office, and I intend to make it a point to speak to everyone often. I’m not naive enough to believe that I will be able to have all personal face to face contact with my followers, and I know that there will be times when I will need to email, and call people on the phone, but hopefully those won 't be mass emails, and phone calls very often. Every Saturday, I distinctly recall the smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The radio would be playing in the background, masked by the overwhelming chatter occurring throughout the house. So many things happening in such a small space: what I remember most, is the sound of laughter, and the smiles that surrounded me.
