njury? I have not until it happened to me. In May, at the end of my 10 th grade track season at
Sunnydale
High School, I was at

a state track meet; all of my friends were there from different cities, schools, and counties.
The day of the track meet, the track team was leaving

After I signed in, I took that slow and cautious journey to the starting line. I noticed that everybody was in the stadium looking at this one par ticular race, my race, so I blocked everybody out of my mind and just focused on myself and that finish line. The man yelled, o n your mark, get set and he popped the gun. I was off like a lightening bolt. I zipped around the curve to the st raight away. I told myself to go faster, and then I see a girl to my right. We re near the finish line; then she tripped. I was like o h no

s he grabbed my right arm and then I went down.
We fell hard across the finish line. Th e girl’s left leg somehow came across my right leg; the spikes in the bottom of her shoes got embedded in my left thigh. She snatched her foot out and blood went everywhere. As I was sliding, my back and my right arm were torn apart by the track. I was really bleeding more than ever that day. My skin was burning, and my uniform was soaked with blood. I heard the girl crying and screaming; she was apologizing to me in her high pitched scratchy voice, but I was not paying her any attention, I was in too much pain.
While I was lying there, I was asking myself how and why did this happen
