After I signed in, I took that slow and cautious journey to the starting line. I noticed that everybody was in the stadium looking at this one par ticular race, my race, so I blocked everybody out of my mind and just focused on myself and that finish line. The man yelled, o n your mark, get set and he popped the gun. I was off like a lightening bolt. I zipped around the curve to the st raight away. I told myself to go faster, and then I see a girl to my right. We re near the finish line; then she tripped. I was like o h no

We fell hard across the finish line. Th e girl’s left leg somehow came across my right leg; the spikes in the bottom of her shoes got embedded in my left thigh. My skin was burning, and my uniform was soaked with blood. I heard the girl crying and screaming; she was apologizing to me in her high pitched scratchy voice, but I was not paying her any attention, I was in too much pain.
While I was lying there, I was asking myself how and why did this happen

This story begins on a hot, summer Sunday on a neighborhood playground in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida when I was a kindergartener. The playground had one item that I liked the most which was a thing that you would hold onto then someone would push you across ten feet while your feet were hanging down. My dad came up to push me and might have pushed me a little too hard. When I got to the end of the line there was a rubber block that stops you very abruptly. Due to inertia, I was flung off of the handle over the rail, then did some crazy acrobatics in the air, Finally I landed right on top of my left wrist.…
