Personal Narrative: Improving My Reading

Decent Essays
I think my reading has improved because I use better vocabulary and I can understand what I am reading. The reading strategies have helped me to become a better reader. I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty. If I can summarize what I read then I know I have a good handle on what I just read. I want to grow more vocabulary when reading in all my classes, so I know what I am reading without having to stop and look up words I don't know. I want to keep improving my reading and to take

Now I could lie and make up stuff that made me like reading and writing but I see no point in that. Honestly I don’t have a lot of memories of reading and writing from when I was a little kid and I can tell you now that football hasn’t helped me at remembering those memories either. With that being said I do remember some memories, some are good and also bad.…

I was the opposite child in school all the kids could read the small basic words and not the hard big words; as for me I was the opposite I could read the hard big words and not the small basic words. As I grew up I started liking reading more, then I had gotten to Chase middle I did so much reading that when I read a good book I couldn’t put it down I had to read it until the end. I second all of the points brought up by Chris in his responce to your incredible writing. I was deeply moved by your literacy narrative. By simply having the pleasure of spending the past month or so with you, I would have never known about the part of your life that you wrote so passionately about in your literacy narrative. I often find it so intriguing that everyone has a story that resonates so deeply with him or her. That is exactly why I think large projects such as Humans of New York (HONY) or class assignments such as this one are so important.…

Does rejection or determination push you to go beyond the limits of what one expects of you? Most everyone would say it does, but does this only affect those of us who want to be writers? It definitely does not, nor is it limited to anyone of a particular language. People of different backgrounds, all have the same urge to learn something not entirely expected of them, even if it is just a different language. The writings of people, while very similar, have a great number of differences.…

As stated in the assignment description, literacy is entirely acquired in context. As I’ve known how to read since my early developmental years, it wasn’t that I was able to read something into much later on. Reading a novel is different from reading an article on a newspaper or online as reading a screenplay is different from reading a poem. When I first started college two years ago, I acquired an entirely new literacy of a digital artifact in a digital media class. In the class, a core project was the development of a professional personal website.…

My Journey with Two Different Literacy’s I have been struggling with reading and writing from what I remember. But at such a young age I did have a passion for reading until I had to learn English. Before I started learning English I had a mysterious attraction to different types of genres when it came down to books. I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts one of the coldest state ever in the winter. As I turned one my grandmother got very sick and she needed help so we ended up moving down to one of the most beautiful, tropical, friendliest island ever, Puerto Rico.…

Going through elementary school reading was always a struggle for me. It was challenging for me to fully comprehend what we were doing and reading in the class. Every friday I would go to see a teacher one on one to practice reading it involved being timed and having to tell her everything I had just read so that it would build up my comprehension. I remember feeling very embarrassed to be pulled out of class for extra help. Going through that didn't help that much, I was missing class…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…
