“You do realize once you join, there's no going back,” Rocco said. “I know that just don't let me get caught!¨ Imani said rudely. ¨Imani, actually you don't...if you die in there you can die here!¨ Rocco shouted. ¨Well then say your goodbyes now,¨ Imani said, you could tell she was over it. Imani laid on the flat table. Rocca brought over the head gear and cords. He placed it on Imani’s head. ¨Oouch! That's tight!¨ Rocco ignored it and continued to hook her up to the cords. Rocco held a small blue container that said biohazard in an electric orange and charcoal black, then continued to take out the 5-inch needle that was about to be injected into Imani´s arm. You never know what they can do to you!” The man walked faster. Imani was scared. They? She thought., Imani walked in sync with the thousands of others and quickly turned into an alley hoping no one would see. She sat down “This was a huge mistake!” She watched people walk in with their feet stepping with each others. They all looked like they were in a marching band or the navy. “I'm so stupid!” The footsteps began to become quieter and the sound of marching boots slowly faded away. Imani thought it was safe to come out of the dark alley. ¨You! Heal!¨ a voice shouted. Imani shook in fear. She looked around to see where the voice had come from, but it was too dark to tell. Suddenly footsteps began to run and the sound only became faster a louder. Imani ran with all her might. The footsteps only became closer and within every step, a new footstep would join. The footsteps sounded like popcorn popping, bubble wrap being stepped on, or millions of glass beads dropping and shattering. At this point, nothing was going through Imani’s head, except the thought of being captured. The footsteps became quiet and now, it was the only sound of two footsteps, her own. Imani stopped and looked back as if she could see anything. It was so quiet. Just her and her thoughts...It seemed. Then she heard a man

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck.
