Personal Narrative: If I Was A Firefighter

Decent Essays
If I was a firefighter around the time 9/11 happened, I would have rushed into the building and carrying a person at a time all while dodging the flames of the building. For the people on the higher floors, I will get my fire truck and use the ladder to get up there and rescue them. Then I would use my fire hose and spray the fire so the flames don't spread. When the fire dies down I will go through the rubbish in search for more live people and I. Ds or credit cards so I can alert the families of the people who dies during 9/11. it was a tough time during 9/11 but I truly believe if I

Following the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11, the fire service has undergone a transformation in its response in order to avoid another disaster of this magnitude. The 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centers in New York City, New York identified new building design and construction concerns due to a terror event. On September 11, 2001, two commercial aircrafts intentionally crashed into the World Trade Center twin towers igniting jet-fuel-fed fires inside the structures. Due to the intense flames impinging on the steel structure the towers collapsed. Three hundred forty-three firefighters died in the collapse.…

9/11 - Personal Perspective In 2001, I lived in Slovakia, my home country and did not even dream of living in the United States someday. I was slowly getting used to my new role of a wife and mother that year, quite happy living in a small country in the middle of Europe. I was visiting my parents on Sept. 11 for couple of days. My first child had just been born in August and it was her first visit in grandparents’ house.…

There have been many important events in my life that I have learned from but one particular event comes to mind. Since I was 15, I have been a member of Catlett Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Being a member I can give back to my community and help those that are in a time of need. I have many great memories of how thankful people were when we helped them, but unfortunately I have many memories that are very disturbing that I will never forget. This event took place about two miles away from my house when a call came across the scanner for a structure fire fully involved.…

They encouraged workers who called them to stay on in their offices and wait for help. They even told employees from Fuji/Mizuho company who evacuated from the 80th floor of the south tower to return to their office. Phil Hayes, the retired firefighter who was the deputy fire director for the WTC announced, “There is no need to evacuate Building 2. If you are in the midst of evacuating the building you may use the reentry doors and elevators to return to your office” (Dwyer and Flynn 72). People watching the news reports in other states knew more than the emergency personnel and the 9-11 operators directing people into danger. Many people in the towers did not even know that airplanes had hit their buildings.…

As I mentioned in the previous assignment, I want to increase my baseline 500 steps each week so that by the end of the semester I am recording 10,000 steps which is in the active range. I will continue walking around the property at work and stepping in place whenever I possibly can. I will stick to walking to the mailbox which is two blocks from home as opposed to driving up to it on my way home. If I have days where I am tired I will just give myself another pep talk. I have a pretty good support system thus far so I will lean on them if pushing myself on my own does not cut it.…

As two fully loaded commercial airliners crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the gasoline from the air craft eventually broke the structures and they collapsed, killing thousands of victims and causing wide spread injuries. The picture of the two firemen who appear to be males and wearing traditional protective uniforms and shielding suggest that the picture was taken 1-2 days post event, where I suspect the distance to the crater that was left behind does not appear to concern or bother them. Also, from my perspective they do not appear to be on alert, fearing secondary attacks where after the initial attacks there was fear that there would be additional coordinated attacks and responses in the city, but I believe that their relaxed postures relays that they are out of immediate danger and can fully take in the…
