I was able to buckle down, study more, and eventually pull all my grades back up to an A. If I had not pushed myself to go beyond what I am capable of doing, I might not be where I am today in my studies. I developed good study habits, and improved on my time management. These events helped my to grow in other areas of my life as well. I started running my freshman year of high school, and was immediatley put on the girl's varsity team. I was the slowest of the seven, but did not work as hard at practice as I should have to get better. The same went for my sophomore year. I was just getting by, always coming in last on the team. However, after my outdoor track season my sphomore year, I realized that I may not be on the varsity team my junior year. The summer before my junior year, I began to increase my milage, and incorporate speed workouts, and hill strides. I was improving and secured my varsity spot and our number three runner. I was excited, I dropped a good amount of time each race, and was beginning to enjoy running. Now, I continue

Basically, don’t let anyone get in the way of your desires or accomplishments because it may affect you negatively. Another way Emerson views life is to try something new when given the chance. “The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried” (Self Reliance”). “Strength and growth only come only through continuous effort and struggle” - Napoleon Hill. As a Sophomore I took 1 challenging class, which was an honors class, because I was afraid of struggling and fear of failing. I was almost mentally accepting that I would never have the capability or succeed in Honors classes and AP classes. I began to find out the term “Honors” was just a word the education placed to intimidate individuals to not challenge themselves. To this day this has been my biggest regret; not challenging myself with tough classes.…

As a child, I loved school. Learning, playing, and interacting with others brought joy to my life. At school, I spent my energy doing as much as I could while I was there, and at home, I would pretend to be at school, teaching all of my stuffed animals what I learned that day. While this passion of mine did not last forever, it did not fully disappear. The older I became, the less school appealed to me, but the drive to do my best stayed consistent throughout.…

I’ve always been the type of student who puts a lot of pressure on herself. Generally, I get good results too; my grades are top notch. The journey there, however, isn’t always pretty. I used to stress myself out to the point of panic attacks, often over things that weren’t worth it: a test that was below my usual standard, an essay that I didn’t think was good enough, a math concept that I didn’t immediately understand. My mind became a cluttered and noisy place, full of worries, doubts, and “what ifs”.…
