Personal Narrative: I Walk Away From Reading

Decent Essays
What made me walk away from reading was as a kid I couldn’t comprehend things that good. I wanted to like to read but it didn’t really work that well because every time I read something nothing would make sense. So I just thought is was boring because I didn’t even know what was going on in the book, for instants it is like if you are reading different word altogether that doesn't make sense.
When I got into 6th grade I liked reading a little more and could comprehend the book better but not much better. I started reading a lot more that year then I ever did. By the time school was over it was finally summer and I don’t normally read that often over the summer. So I started thinking that I should read at least every other day or something

I still rely on DJE, T2T like I did when I took basic reading as well. They are very helpful strategies that help me to read better and think about what I am reading. For this and other classes my goals are to understand what I am reading and being able to sum up what I read with very little difficulty.…

I always read as a kid. I was the small boy who plowed through books day and night, my mom scrambling to and from the library just to keep up with me. The only thing fixated on my mind was reading a new book and being totally captivated by the plot. Since then, I read less and less, sometimes going months without finishing a book. I feel sad that I spend less and less days staying up to midnight just to read one ... more … page.…

As a child, I would often struggle with reading assignments and I would lose focus on the subject. When I reminisce about those days, I recall those teachers like mechanics who did not fix the problems but sent the bill anyway. With that said, we can only focus today on where we want to go and not where we have…

I would love to go to the library, go to bookstores, or when I would go into a store I would always pick up a book or magazine and start reading. I still do really love reading, but I hardly have any time to anymore, my schedule is school, practice, home, homework, then sleep. But when I do have free time I try to read a book. This year I have only read two and a half books, usually I read five books in one year. Next year I plan to read at least five again because when I read an article in Mrs. Santana’s class,…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

In the quote by Christopher Columbus he states “By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal or destination” I thought this quote pertained to me because I know this year there are going to be many obstacles in English class, but if I just push myself I know I can reach my goal. As a reader and writer, I believe that I have grown stronger over the years. In the past, I did not like reading at all I would try to get by with reading as little of the stories as possible in order to pass. I felt this way until this summer when I started to read the books for English.…

In seventh grade, my reading experience went farther downhill. The teacher expected us to do projects reflecting over what we had read every time we finished a book, with a minimum of five per trimester. I hated doing these reflection projects, so my quantity of reading fell further to just five books every three months. However, the final nail in the coffin of my reading came in eighth grade. On the first day of school, the teacher informed us that the only genre we would be allowed to read for out reading logs, which were unnecessarily complicated, was nonfiction.…
