I'm proud of everything I accomplished because I did and I'm proud of myself, I like to look and see all the obstacles I have overcome. I'm also proud of how people see me as a human I'm always happy when someone says to me how respectful I am. My favorite place by far on earth is my house on a Sunday night when all seven of us are watching football and having something for dinner.

My key life lessons are that nothing beats hard work and if you treat others with respect, they will generally treat you with respect. Hard work and effort are the main aspects that lead to “lucky” things happening. Good things don’t just fall into people’s laps, the ones that have the most “luck” generally are those that put in the most effort and work. Also, I have learned that when you truly respect those around, they will respect you back and life is much easier when you aren’t doing things behind each other’s backs.…

Although, I have never met another individual with the name Maycel; I am sure there is someone with my name out there. Life Lesson The author of the American Idol, Leah LaBelle, once said, “Work hard for what you want because it won 't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive.” I like this quote because it encourages me as a deaf woman who still struggles and fights with many issues. I was born deaf and grew up having trouble communicating.…

These so called journeys, teach us the most valuable life lessons. Whether the lesson has a positive or negative outcome, it sticks and becomes a part of that person. I have experienced many life lessons, though some I may not have wanted to experience. I wouldn’t want it any other way.…

Each individual is different when determining who they are and what they are going to do in their lives. Some at their adolescence may have an idea on what they want in life and others may have no idea of who they are, much less what they are going to do with their lives. My personal story may resemble those individuals who seem confused to know who they are and go on exploring different things in order to discover who they are and what they want to do in life. When I was born, I weighed 6 pounds and measured 19 inches.…

Let me first of all say that I’m Nigerian and how big a deal and normal it is for at least 7 out of 10 Nigerian parents to continuously nag their children about how many relatives are watching them and waiting for them to succeed. Most times the children including myself have no idea who most of these extra relatives are because previously we only knew a handful now members of the community and church attendees who we once said hello to because our parents accidentally bumped into them after mass join that category. And let me not forget the already married and unmarried but successful children of aunts and uncles and may be one or two or may be ten more unknown relatives they’ll constantly talk about in the form of comparison. So yes, to…

The long, unhappy buildup to my happiest experience began many years ago, when I first started school. Even on my very first day of kindergarten, it was already clear to me that going to school wasn’t going to be something that I enjoyed. I was very shy and withdrawn, and the other kids weren’t at all interested in being friends with me. They never seemed to like me as much as they all liked each other, despite my efforts to try and fit in. The kids in my class didn’t see my quiet nature as shyness, but rather as something strange, which made me someone to avoid.…
