Personal Narrative: I Had To Pursue Education

I graduated high school in late 2011 but was unable to continue my education because of the Syrian War that broke out in late summer. Constant clashes and combat made it impossible to reach school. I faced death several times that year, escaping an explosion and a sniper shot. It was a transformative point of my life that led me to closely examine the concepts of life and death.

As the war escalated, the poor healthcare system in Syria failed to meet the growing demands to treat wounds and injuries. While paramedics and nurses managed to give first aid treatments, they were not trained to deal with critical cuts or injuries. Many people lost their lives simply because they did not have a medical doctor to treat them. These events exposed
