Personal Narrative-I Didn T Get Your Way !

I Get It I’ve learned many lessons throughout my life. My parents always told me at the dinner table, “Don’t chew with your mouth open! You sound like a cow!” to which I always stopped. I got what they were trying to do. When I was even younger, I would cry if I didn’t get the toy I wanted. My grandpa would not tolerate it and he would tell me, “You can’t always get your way!” The more he told me that, the more I wouldn’t do it anymore and then I would get it. Those are a few examples of some basic manners and rules I was taught by my elders when I was little. However, out of all of those sayings from my parents, grandparents, and even people I barely knew, there’s one popular phrase that took me a while to understand. Sometimes your best just isn’t good enough. During freshman year at my old high school, I knew from the end of 8th …show more content…
I was on the team during the last two years of middle school and was very confident my style of play would earn me a spot on the team. During JV tryouts, we did basic drills to start things off. 3 on 3, running suicides, jump rope, shooting drills, passing drills, etc. I’m not going to sit here and say I was flawless, but I thought I did very well and so did all of my friends and teammates. These tryouts went on for about 3 more days, and at the end of the final tryout, the coach posted the list of who made the team. As we all went over to check the piece of paper, my friends seemed not very excited that they made the team because from going to all the summer league games and practices, you’re basically guaranteed a spot. I couldn’t attend many of these drills because I had a job at McDonalds over the

During the three nights of tryouts, I was always the first one to finish the sprints, I hustled on every play, and left everything I had on the court. Confident in the way I played, I checked the results when they came out–I had been cut for the second year in a row. My heart dropped and millions of thoughts ran through my mind–I should stop playing basketball, I wasted all my time on something useless, hard work does not pay off. After pondering on these thoughts for several days, I decided to rededicate myself to the sport; I found a more competitive AAU team to play for, IYB Basketball and Wayne PAL Wolfpack, and found myself a trainer. Everyday after finishing my schoolwork, I either went to the gym to lift and play basketball or went to an AAU practice or game.…

I managed to reach a point where I began making false promises to myself and others about addressing my situation. Among those empty promises was the one where I claimed I would give up drinking, attend rehab and try to get my life back on track. I even fiddled with the thought of seeking inpatient assistance if things weren't working as planned. Let's be clear and fair.…

“Beep Beep Beep” It is 5 am and my hand can’t make it to the alarm clock before the voices in my head start telling me that it is too early and too dark to get up. But I did not ask for their opinion, I rise like a phoenix and before I know it, I am drenched in sweat and walking out an empty gym in route to the soccer field. Why you ask because I was told I was not good enough, too uncoordinated, and too tall to play soccer and I was on a mission to prove them wrong. There was a month left before the traveling soccer team that everyone told me I was not good enough to play for came back to town for their yearly tryouts.…
