Personal Narrative: I Clean My Closet

Decent Essays
Today I decided to be productive, so I set off to clean my closet. It was horrendous. A pile of laundry so high that it reached the ceiling. Not a single article of clothing hanging from a hanger, except for socks without a match. Wrappers and empty bags scattered across the remaining part of the empty floor. Something gooey dripping from a shelf and something crunchy beneath my feet. The light fixture flickers as I make my way into the landfill that is my closet and I get started. I fill up one basket with my laundry, barely making a dent, and stuff it into the washing machine. Next, I clean up the goop, after a closer look, it was possibly honey or my third-grade science experiment. Next, I grab a garbage bag and get to removing the trash on the ground. …show more content…
Huh. I always thought my closet was carpeted. Ding! I move my clean laundry to the dryer and load the next basket of laundry. I prepare the third basket and begin to clear the hangers for the clean laundry. I don't have a home for the socks quite yet so I throw them onto my desk to worry about later. I grab some more garbage bags from the kitchen to finish off the garbage on the floor. Soon enough, every candy wrapper, receipt, failed homework assignment, and the indecipherable papers were disposed

The story “Mess” by John Hollander is interesting take on the concept on cleanliness and how the human mind perceives it. Hollander starts out his essay by giving an example of how different people react to a mess. He refers to the subjects as X and Y. He states that what may seem messy to X, could be perfectly neat and orderly to Y. Hollander even goes as far to say that if Y had a pile a books, and X arranged all the books into a neat stack, the neat stack could appear to be utter chaos to Y. After this profound example, the article continues to go on and list all the different kind of messes that exist in our lives. Hollander breaks the messes into different categories such as outdoor messes, indoor messes, personal states, and personal appearance messes.…

Then I would go to the closet with the washing machine and dryer. If there were clothes already in the washer, I moved them to the dryer and turned it on. If there were clothes in the dryer, I would put them in a laundry basket, fold them, and put them in the linen closet. Before I put any clothes in the washer, I made sure there was no big stains that needed to be sprayed with oxiclean. I’d turn the washer on and when it was finished, do the same thing again.…

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off, and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, the frigid wind sends my nose running. Walking towards the back door of the school, I grasp the cold metal handle, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustom to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated backstage area.…

Poets will manipulate these factors to aid them in the process of creating a product that will embody their purpose. As a result of different mindsets and individual expression, certain poems are more difficult to analyze than others. For me, it looks completely fine.…
