Personal Narrative: I Believe In Mistakes

Decent Essays
I believe in mistakes. Most people think making mistakes are not normal and that their life shouldn’t have any mistakes. That their life has to be perfect. That’s not really how life works. In reality everyone makes them and it’s okay to make them.

I’m a highschool student. I should know about mistakes. I feel like us high school students make a lot of mistakes. Since I am still young I have made a lot of mistakes and a lot more ahead of me. Sometimes the mistakes I make are minor and some of them are major. Even the smallest of mistakes can still make a huge difference. I feel like us teens are afraid to make mistakes because then people would just look at us differently. It does not really matter. It shouldn’t matter at least.

Can We Avoid Mistakes? In Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson’s book Mistakes Were Made (but not by me) they claim that we can defeat the demon of self-justification by understanding how it works. “When politicians’ backs are against the wall, they will reluctantly acknowledge error but not their responsibility for it” (Tavris/Aronson 4). How many of us use self-justification in relationships, jobs and purchases we make?…

I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

I managed to reach a point where I began making false promises to myself and others about addressing my situation. Among those empty promises was the one where I claimed I would give up drinking, attend rehab and try to get my life back on track. I even fiddled with the thought of seeking inpatient assistance if things weren't working as planned. Let's be clear and fair.…

To some the mistakes that are made throughout life are considered as deeds that define what others reflect of us rather then what you may think of yourself. In reality we are human beings we all make mistakes whether those mistakes maybe big or small they don’t define us. Instead those mistakes help us grow, they shape us into the people that we have become today, and they continue to shape us in to the people that we will be in the future and so on. Ted talks “why your worst deeds don’t define you” discusses why our deeds do not define us. During the video Shaka Senghor thrashed out that we are simply human, and everyone makes mistakes.…

Everybody makes mistakes, some more severe than others. However, not everyone has made mistakes that could have costed them their lives. For me, such an incident took place in March of 2017 when I crashed my car into a ditch. Although the experience was far from pleasant, I know I will never forget it or the valuable lessons it seared into my brain. I learned to always be aware while driving, and to make sure to stay focused.…

Mistakes are simple, one time mess ups, who the actor could have avoided if they used their heads. Even though they did the action, many of them will regret it and how it has affected their relationship with others. For example, if someone kissed another person while in a relationship, they made a mistake. However, they may regret it dearly because it hurt their significant other, and because they did not think before doing the action.…

“The Road Not Taken” is a poem written by Robert Frost reflecting on a personal experience. He talks about the time when he was to make a difficult decision. With all the evidence gathered, it almost seems as if he regretted the outcome of his decision and he is curious as to see whether the other choice could have been better (or not). This is a very intellectual poem that may leave readers in suspense. For first-time readers, you would never be able to tell if Frost actually regretted taking the path he chose, or if he was grateful for it.…
