I Believe in Competitive Swimming
Swimming is my life. Joining the swim team has changed my life more than I ever thought it would. Since I joined my weeks have been filled with practice and more practice. Weekends are filled with meets and going to events. I went through a lot of years just so I could join the team. Being part of a team is amazing and full of fun.
Swim has changed my life in a lot of ways. From being part of a team, to getting up early for meets. I don’t know what I would be doing if I did not join the team. For a while I could not decide what I wanted to do as my sport. But I remembered my love of swimming and decided to try out for the team. Once I was on the team, I was moving up to higher levels really fast, which meant I was getting faster and my meet times were getting lower! From the cold rush of water, to the nervousness and noise of the first meet, a lot of things have changed. But, overall all that change was the best.
Swim has not only affected me, but it also has affected my family. It has affected my family because all of my relatives live in Illinois , so they have to drive about an hour to

As I stated before. Joining the swim has not only made me stronger on the outside, but also on the inside. Swim has benefited me physically by making me gain more muscles, making me stronger and have a large amount of stamina. Swimming has also made me mentally stronger. From swimming in meets, to finishing that last hard set in practice, I have learned I can accomplish more when I believe that I can accomplish it. I now make more goals for myself like getting a state cut in 50 fly, lowest time one 100 fly, state cut one 50 free, etc. Since I make those goals, I work hard to reach them and feel proud. Being able to be mentally strong is a good skill to have in any sport, because there are less mental blocks that can occur, plus, it’s easier to focus when believing in whatever goal was

I understood the importance of collaboration, cooperation, and trust of my teammates. Every win and loss is realized as a team; we shared both blame and victory. Being the slowest swimmer on the team I was motivated to practice harder; as I improved my team benefited. I gained leadership skills as JV co-captain, knowing the players would listen to me and looked up to me for guidance. It was my job to encourage the girls to stay focused and on task to learn complicated plays.…

However, I believe that my greatest skill comes in Water Polo. I joined Water Polo in seventh grade, because I was too small to be effective in football, and the Fresno heat combined with heavy padding is truly miserable. I naively believed that in Water Polo I would quickly rise to the level of the Star of the team, because I have had a pool for as long as I remember. Unfortunately, as with all sports that I have tried, I lacked any talent, and apparently my swimming skills were not as advanced as I had anticipated. I spent the duration of seventh and eighth grade playing left bench.…

In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…

Ever since I was in the seventh grade, I have wanted to lose weight pretty badly. When in eighth grade I did not take a lot of action to achieve this. I was encouraged by family and friends to join the swim team. At first I was hesitant because I had not played a sport in eight years. I did not believe I was athletically capable of keeping up with the Canton Swim and Dive team.…

I defend my friends, especially my teammates. Even though swimming is an individual sport, it is also a team sport. Waking up at 5:00 in the morning for a two-hour morning workout isn’t something that anyone can do. Having a team there to be encouraging is what gets us through the season; so naturally we become very close.…

Essay A There is a straight road in my hometown that in one coincidental way or another has shaped my entire life. The road is known as Junction Highway, and every place that has ever been important to me I have gotten to by using this road. On Junction Highway I have driven home from school feeling exhausted from whatever practice that I experienced that day, but still smiling as I rolled the windows down on my 2005 baby blue beetle, and let the fragrant hill country breeze blow my hair in my face. I've watched the golden pink and purple orange sunsets, and enjoyed countless songs on the radio.…

Slowly swimming grew on me. The team gave me a sense of accomplishment, a second family, and a sport that I would carry with me for the rest of my life. Swimming and working wasn’t very fun though because after morning practice I would go straight to my job, then after guarding all day in the heat I would go back to a hard afternoon training in the sun. There were days where my sunburn limited my body movement or a dehydration caused massive headaches, and me want to quit swimming. I thought to myself that if I didn’t keep fighting when a little sun made life was hard, how I would pull through for my family in actual challenging times. However swimming brought me peace, joy, my best friends, and these will always be outweigh the hurdles. Whenever I’m feeling stressed or angry, swim has always helped me relieve those…

Participating in Panther Athletics has had a tremendous role in making me into the person I am today. I have participated in volleyball, diving, and gymnastics over the course of my high school career. Participating in volleyball taught me so much about myself. It showed me how desperately I desire to succeed. Without a doubt, joining the high school cheerleading team has greatly affected the way I approach life. Making the team, I have learned what it means to have patience and execute a hard-working ethic. With barely any skills to contribute, I ended up becoming a great contribution to the team and falling in love with the sport. Many new skills needed practice, and through patience I discovered that hard work makes any dream attainable. Many moments came up where I considered giving up trying because no progress seemed visible; I learned that even if the skill does not seem accessible at that given moment, anything an individual does to get closer to that particular dream makes them better.…

Which is more beneficial, team sports or individual sports? When comparing team and individual sports, most people do not realize how easy it is to pick out the similarities and differences the two have. Individual and team sports have the same main purpose, but the motivation, competitiveness, and life skills set them apart. In athletics, most athletes set goals for themselves, whether it is a personal goal or a team goal. It is pretty easy to set a goal, but the person setting the goal may never reach it without motivation.…
