I Believe

Many people believe in other things as in getting good grades in school , going to college but me myself I believe in cheerleading .

I believe in cheerleading because it’s fun , it makes you wanna work harder . Cheerleading makes you push yourself harder . I remember my Freshman year , I tried out for cheerleading and didn’t make it . Then I became a Sophomore at Southwest Early College Campus and I tried my hardest and I succeeded . I finally accomplished my big dreams I had finally become a cheerleader . Up until I had to drop out because I moved schools , then I tried out for the cheerleading squad at Hickman Mills High School . I didn’t make it the first time, but I kept trying . She always used to tell me these little stories of her in cheerleading , I remember the one she said that she broke her foot doing a side hurdler . I love pain so I thought it would be fun . I did it and been wanting to do it ever since . Cheerleading is not the most important thing in my life , not even close , but it does play a huge part . I could say so much about cheerleading , cheerleading is not just standing on the sidelines and cheering . It goes beyond the expectations of what people think cheerleading is . A competition routine consists of a squad performing , tumbling , jumping , dancing , stunting skills and a cheer for 3 minutes on a competition mat .

My Freshman year I found out I had heart problems . Not as bad as everybody said, but I do . Everyone kept telling me to quit the squad , I just can’t do it ! I thought being 16 years old was too young to just give up on something I dreamed of doing the rest of my life . I stayed in the squad for about 3 more months , then my coach quit so I felt there was no reason to stay so I quit . I was thinking about going to cheer for NEHS but it doesn’t feel the same . When I get used to the coaches and cheerleaders on the squad then I’ll think about it again

Cheerleading has always been a very important aspect to my life. In high school our cheerleading squad had an experience that proved cheerleaders do not get the respect from other athletes that they deserve. As a cheerleading squad, we were at every football and basketball game, even the away games. We were there to show support for our fellow athletes, however when our squad was in a cheerleading competition, not one of the other athletes came in support of us. This showed the lack of respect other athletes had for our cheerleading squad.…

When sophomore year arose, being apart of the team became tedious, but my yearning passion to become a captain continued my intense drive.…

Though still new and misunderstood, competitive cheerleading is a sport and should be treated as one by society.
