Personal Narrative-I Am Athena

Improved Essays
Hello, I am Athena. I am the goddess of courage, intelligence, strategic warfare, and wisdom. My father is Zeus, a sky god, so he controls lightning and thunder. We are very close, probably the closest out of all 92 of his children. I guess you could say my birth was pretty abnormal. I was born one day somewhere between 550 and 525 BC right after my father swallowed my mother, Metis. My father then developed a horrible headache and I eventually emerged from his forehead, fully grown in a suit of armour. It was awesome. Even though I am a girl, I’m one of the toughest and bravest in battle. There isn’t anything I would not do to protect my state. After all, I am the guardian of Athens. I have an archenemy whose name is Ares. He is the god of war and can be really dangerous when it comes to battle. He is commonly known for being the lover of Aphrodite, but she is married to Hephaestus. Am I the only one that finds that confusing and a little freaky? Anyways, in my free time, I often do arts and crafts. I love weaving and spinning the most though. Doing these arts and crafts …show more content…
I’ve been in battles, gone on journeys and have had many crazy experiences. There was one experience I don’t think i could ever forget, which was the time I took part in murdering Medusa. I couldn’t have competed this life changing task without the help of my two friends, Hermes and Perseus though. I provided Perseus with a polished shield and then guided his hand as he cut Medusa’s head right off. Undergoing challenges like this have only taught me to be who I am today. It has taught me to embrace not only my strengths but my weaknesses as well. Two of my biggest weaknesses would have to be not being able to show emotion or be compassionable, and not being able to find my true love. This has stopped me from ever being able to have children, but I don’t mind because I didn’t really want any since I have an extraordinarily busy

I cut a piece of paper in a circle and drew the god Hypnos's head to represent my first accomplishment of waking up from my then state and doing something to reach my goal of attending college. Hypnos is the god of sleep and awakening and symbolically I felt as if I was in a slumber that I was finally able to awaken from, so I thought he was the perfect representation of me at that time. The second god I chose was Athena and she symbolizes my accomplishment of getting the grades I wanted by gaining the knowledge of how to control my time, self, and life. Not by any means do I presume I have Athena's wisdom, but I was able to gain some insight about myself during certain classes such as my SLS class. Athena is the goddess of wisdom and one of her symbols is the owl, so I cut out the outline of an owl to symbolize Athena.…

Upon first meeting Telemachus, both Athena (in the disguise of family friend the Mentor) and Menelaus remark upon the uncanny physical resemblance between father and son: Athena exclaims, “you must be, by your looks, Odysseus’ boy?/ The way your head is shaped, the fine eyes – yes,/ how like him”, and Menelaus also notes the “likeness”, observing that “Odysseus’ hands and feet were like this boy’s;/ his head, and hair, and the glinting of his eyes” (I.244-6; IV.155-7). This familial resemblance grows over the course of the Odyssey, as Telemachus also becomes more like his father in terms of personality and character traits. While he first appears before Athena (Mentor) as a resentful “boy” who is unable to defend his father’s household and…
