A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

My goal is visual storytelling for print and digital that is content-driven, clear and easy to navigate. I accomplish this by collaborating and communicating with photo and word editors. This also requires staying up-to-date with daily news and being familiar with our newspaper's content. I often juggle multiple tasks during a design shift. In addition to my design responsibilities, I help make sure design desk schedules are accurate and posted in a timely manner, fix plotter paper jams, resolve digital issues, manage page flow, convert graphics to our style or correct them, provide detailed explanations of workflow issues, create illustrations and provide help to my colleagues when needed.…

An abundance of people appreciate the arts, whether it be the performing, visual or theatrical areas, on the other hand, I love them. My passion being the visual arts. Instead of writing and spelling at five years old, I was drawing, painting mixing colors and forming shapes not realizing the capableness of my techniques for such a young aged child. Because drawing was the only thing I fancied, every one figured it was “a phase I was going through and would grow out of it”. It never happened.…

Throughout the past six years of my life, I had always kept an interest in photography and capturing memories through the eye of a camera lens. My interests began with my first iPhone and then continued on with my Canon Rebel T1i. Throughout these years, I would take pictures of a variety of different things – people, nature, and landscapes. Modern photography has allowed for us, as humans, to become more involved in our surroundings and delve into art, color, and detail, all while enhancing our memory and appreciativeness of the world around us instead of hindering it; however, we must learn to not live through the eye of a camera lens.…

Starting with the first day we moved into our dorm we are greeted by new faces and take part in activities that would reserve a permanent place in our memories. Students arrived at Michigan State from different cities, different states, and even different countries, and we were placed in dorm rooms and worked to find our way to class. These students have different backgrounds and goals, and each had an idea for a career, but we all share the need to be able to communicate at a college level and writing is an excellent place to start. Michigan State requires completion of a college level writing course for all degrees and most students take WRA101, first year writing. Through this trajectory of learning to be … while making and doing… I have always been more attached to the effort of trying to meet the needs of the artist as a person. I have learned that the art can survive only as long as the artist does… and my life in art and design began by serving those vulnerable creative communities who were tenacious enough to withstand the colonial legacy of destruction followed by our own apathy and indifference towards homegrown talent. I took a decision NOT to wear mill-made cloth more than 40 years ago. I do not miss it! Moreover, it makes me comfortable both physically and spiritually…

Teaching an art lesson was kind of new for me, as I have never seen my CT integrating art into an academic subject. Moreover, it was a challenge for me to create an art class integrated with an academic subject. When I spoke to my CT about creating an integrated art lesson she told me that it will be better for me to teach an art lesson separated from an academic subject, so I spoke to the ancillary teacher to allow me to teach an art class during their time period.
