Brilliantly coloured stain glass windows adorn cathedrals such as Chartes which is a treasure house of stain-glass such as the Virgin and Child, The Window of Jesse and The Last Supper. The importance of light in Gothic cathedrals is reflective of Middle Age ideology that light was the purest form and often associated with Christ. The divine reality of God that light ignited for the people of the Middle Ages is solidified through the vertical architecture which not only draws the viewer’s eye upwards, but it draws the eye upwards towards the light and therefore towards…

For this essay I decided to discuss Gothic stained glass from the early Christians within the Christian religion. It is very hard to determine, definitively, when early Christian art began because before the year 100 the Christians were a people that faced many persecutions. The persecutions the early Christians faced are thought to be an important factor in why they were unable to create lasting artworks. Their persecutions are not the only reasons that are believed to be the reason that a lot of Christian art is not found, it could also be due to the fact that there was not many followers of the Christian religion and those that were followers were in the middle class and did not have the money to be able to create artworks that could endure for many years. “The earliest Christians worshiped in their homes; then, when they became politically secure enough, the Christians built churches……

The Truth Behind the Object: Symbolism in The Glass Menagerie and Lives of the Saints Symbolism is an extremely powerful literary tool that many authors use to emphasize important themes and motifs. This is evident in both The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams and Lives of the Saints by Nino Ricci. Both authors use, what seem to be, ordinary objects as an avenue to symbolize various reoccurring themes throughout the story. Although the symbols used in each novel differ greatly from each other in a literal sense, figuratively and symbolically, they are equally as powerful in representing the themes common to both stories. Through the use of powerful symbols, Tennessee Williams and Nino Ricci emphasize the of innocence in Laura Wingfield…
