Growing up in my small town has helped enable me to be the person I am today. In my school, teachers provide with academic challenges and I, Choosing to surround myself with peers who share the same values such as hard work and goal setting. My community has its perks such as easy access to events and buildings as it does make you feel safe and homely. My community also has its minor flaws: for example going to another unfamiliar community that just makes you anxious. At school I feel secure, and Brooks is one of the unfamiliar communities I am scared of.…
After graduating from high school I went to the army to finish my mandatory Military training and national service. Afterwards I was admitted to Eritrean Institute of Technology, however, while attending there in Spring 2012 in run in trouble with the school administration. I was accused of being a member of an opposition group, which lead to my detention and interrogation. The interrogation included torture and because of it I ended up in a hospital unconscious with multiple injuries. I later escaped from the hospital.…
I have personally grow as an individual since I took my first steps into high school, from only worrying about school to becoming more involved in my community. Academics has always and will always be my number one focus, but it will not be my only focus. My only focus fas a freshman was my grades because I did not think I could handle extracurricular activities while maintaining excellent grades; however, I was wrong. As the end of freshman year approached, I decided to try out for volleyball and expand my knowledge and interests, which have sparked my involvement in other extracurricular activities my junior year, joining student council, National Honor Society, and DECA. Student council has prepared me for real life situations and has taught…
This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…
Without Worry Keeping my head down, I walk into the school, my bangs covering my right eye. Pulling out my schedule, I start to my first period, taking slow, even steps, counting each step as I go. Forty-six, forty-seven, forty-eight, forty-n… Before I can count another number, I’m on the ground. Looking up, I see a boy around my age bending down to my height, worry in his eyes. “Hey, sorry about that... didn’t see you there.…
High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…
In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…
“Every story has an end, but in life every ending is just a new beginning.” -Dakota Fanning This quote reflects my high school experience because I thought that once I finished middle school it would have been the end of my journey. Of course I was wrong, it was only the beginning.…
Hey guys it's Haley, and as you can tell by the title, I decided to make a part two of my high school terrors just because I went to Reagan last night. Last night, I attended the Reagan open house and you could say that it went well. Once I arrived, I noticed the abundant amount of other kids that would also be applying to Reagan. That made me a little nervous. We all sat in the auditorium as a couple Reagan seniors talked to us about the opportunities that Reagan offers and basically their Reagan story.…
When I moved to Springfield Township from Cheltenham Township, I really despised the sudden change. I disliked almost everything about it but what I did not know at the time is that by my senior year I would eventually love this school as I molded it into a place that I wanted to be at. During the end of my freshmen year, I found myself with a new view of how I was going to cultivate at Springfield Township High School. After meeting a valuable presence that will have forever leave an imprint on me, I decided that I needed to get involved with school to become apart of it. From that moment, the following year, I signed up for the Academic Team meanwhile continuing the Word Language Club which I had joined Freshmen Year and Girl Scouts which…
Personal Narrative I have been to three different schools throughout my entire life. These schools have shaped me into what i am today. I have always thought that everything happens for a reason. Going to these three different schools has led me to where I am today. I’ve experienced a lot throughout the past couple of years.…
To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…
High school is a time in life where many important lessons are learned to help a person grow into something better. I have made mistakes in my time in high school and from those experiences I have learned valuable lessons. My freshman and sophomore years I was not a good student. I was not motivated to academically better myself and because of that my grades suffered heavily. Those years of carelessness do not accurately represent me as the student I am now.…
Rumors spread like nasty parasites feeding on unreliable information. The pests transfer the gossip at the speed of light, making it difficult to control. When Tito came to our school, the rumors engulfed Chesterhill High like a suffocating blanket. The halls chaotic clamor was replaced with the sinister whispers of gossip-feeding teenagers.…
I've made a lot of mistakes, just like any other person, but one shining example that comes to mind when I think about growth from personal failure is my freshman year of high school. I failed English, Algebra, and Health. I had to spend three days in summer school recovering credits. My freshman year of high school was a tough year. I had a very hard time staying motivated and focused, forget being anywhere near organized.…
