Personal Narrative: How To Shoot A Basketball

Improved Essays
Do you know the correct way to shoot a basketball? Coach King, my basketball coach, was the first to teach me how to shoot a basketball correctly. After having a little sister to share my experience with. She began playing basketball at the age of nine and she started to ask some questions about the sport. This experience showed me a new career I may want to pursue some day. I demonstrated how to set your feet. She asked, "Why do you have to set your feet?" I explained, "If you do not set them correctly you are more likely to miss than to make your shots." I also included that she should jump and use her legs, not all arms. She greatly struggled with her form at the beginning. We worked on making her arm a perfect "L" shape when shooting. I also taught her to use her left hand as a guide hand to prevent from shootings one handed. I was once told in order to have the perfect shot you should follow the rules of "BEEF". These rules are known as balance, elbow, eyes, and follow through. My sister understood these rules and her form got dramatically better. …show more content…
I showed her some YouTube videos of NBA players shooting. First, she learned how to flick her wrist to make the ball rotate. While practicing that I told her,"If the ball rotates it is more prone to go in the goal." I compared it to reaching to a high shelf and sticking her hand into a cookie jar. She mastered this technique quickly. Through this experience we bonded. We also strengthened our relationship as siblings. She learned a valuable lesson she will never forget, but she wasn't the only one. I too learned how easy it is to teach someone something. This event inspired me to coach basketball when I get

The off hand thumb should be in line with the middle of your nose and should end level with the middle of your forehead, remember elbow position. Bring your arm up and forward so it is about 45 degrees from your body, and let your elbow become straight as you release the ball toward the rim off of your finger tips. Rise up onto your tiptoes letting go with your off hand shortly before releasing the ball so you are not shooting with two hands. Your hand should not move to the left or right because this will put the wrong spin on the ball and alter the path of the ball. Finally, snap your wrist down so that your knuckles point to the ceiling and your pointer and middle finger are pointed to the ground.…

That was embarrassing I love the game of basketball, even when I score in the other team’s basket. In my defense, I was only six years old and it was my first time being on a basketball team. Me and my older brother Houston were on the same team, and at the time we were losing by seven or eight points and there was hardly any time left in the game, maybe a second or two. I was always the smallest kid on the court…

From the side, I can see every step in the lay-up process. I can count their steps, watch their release and how they land after the release. Lay-ups are complex open skills; errors in execution are common. Traveling, or taking 3 steps towards the basketball instead of 2 which results in the taking off the wrong foot, is a violation. As practitioner, to correct that error I will take the ball, make her walk and instruct the learner to perform the first two basic steps without a ball repeatedly.…

If you graduated high school you remember the fast whirlwind of senior year. College applications alone are like a hurricane that won’t give up until it takes everything out of you. They judge you based on grade point average, ACT/SAT scores, and extracurricular activities. Not everyone can have a four point oh grade point average, multiple varsity letters, be president of different organizations, have time for friends and family, and still somehow be a teenager. If you look at a person based solely on their title there aren’t that many leaders.…

Basketball, to me and others, is their favorite sport, whether it’s if you enjoy watching, playing, or even just knowing things about the game. For myself, I enjoy all of these things from: shooting the ball, to watching my favorite teams, to knowing the stats of my favorite players. Now, on the subject of the game, many people would always strive to get better at playing the game, if it’s in the aspects of: shooting, passing, dribbling, etc. For me, I would always try to figure out how to get better at shooting, if that had to do with my aim, accuracy, or my form in general. Then, I got to thinking what exactly are the aspects of creating the perfect shot, or at least a decent shot.…

First I am going to let them shoot ten free throws and record how many they make the free throw line is 15 feet away from the basket.(4) I am going to find out which eye is their dominant eye and I will put an eye patch on that eye. Then I will have them dribble the basketball with their right hand for one minute while they are looking straight forward then they will shoot ten more free throws and I am going to see if their accuracy on making shots increases by at least seven percent. I predict that it will improve your accuracy because if you are crossed hand eye dominant the ball doesn’t block your dominant eye, so you will be able to look where the ball is going and you do not have to take your dominant eye off of the…
