If you were to plant two trees and feed them different things, you would receive two different outcomes. So, say that you plenish the first young tree with a great deal of fertilizer, and make sure that it gets a multitude of sunlight and water. Then you feed the second young tree with nothing and just let it grow on its own with no supplements. In the end, the first young tree would grow and prosper a lot better than the second tree that you hardly put any strain into. Therefore, one of the fuels to my success would be propelling myself to be the best I can be everyday in your Pre-AP chemistry class, so that I end up as the first tree.…

In my twelve years of school, I have had many teachers who left their mark on me. The teacher that has inspired me the most, however, is my eleventh grade art teacher, Mr. Palmer. Art became a hobby of mine over the fall break of my sophomore year; starting with learning to draw cartoons from reference pictures, I worked my way up to being able to freehand my favorite characters without looking at a picture. Many times, I tried to draw in different styles and mediums, but not until I took Mr. Palmer’s class did I truly experience the enormous art world. Mr. Palmer taught me about new artists, trying new styles, and never giving up.…

Edwards (1999) states that students are becoming “sharply critical of their childhood drawing and begin to draw certain favorites subjects over and over again, attempting to perfect the image” (p. 69). Kerlavage (1998) adds that for students at this stage “competition becomes a big part of group interaction as young people test their abilities against each other” (p. 57). At this point the goal of the art teacher is to design a project or unit where all students can gain success while keeping competition from becoming hurtful. One way to accomplish this to use methods and techniques that lead to more realistic drawings like using a…
