Personal Narrative: How To Build A Fire

In my home, I have a wood burning stove. My mother thought it was pertinent that I learn how to build a fire but my boyfriend’s parents did not have the same priorities. He is under the belief that real men can build fires so he, therefore, knows how to build a fire. It’s not true. I came home one day to him saying “the stoves broken”; what he meant by this was he could not get the kindling to catch fire. I tried to show him how to do it but he refused to listen because he’s “a real man and [he] know[s] how to build a fire”. I allowed him to try multiple times and then I was finally able to get home before him and get the fire started myself. Once he realized that I knew how to build a fire and he did not, he started asking questions.
