Personal Narrative: How To Bake Brownies

Improved Essays
At five years old, I learned how to bake brownies from a store-bought mix. A seeming innocuous discovery, this has shaped my life ever since. Soon after, I learned how to bake brownies from scratch. From this, I discovered my love for cooking. I would cook for family and friends and they would all be amazed, but I kept thinking that there was something more that I could do with this gift. At church, I learned of a school in Haiti that they were funding. This caused me to hold my first lemonade stand and bake sale during a neighborhood garage sale at age 6. After raising $250 in one day, I was hooked on the concept of using my love of cooking as a force for good. I held multiple bake sales each year to support the Haitian school. I wanted to share this idea with others which forced me to get over my fears of public speaking and have now come to enjoy …show more content…
First, by working to your full potential in everything that you do, it relieves stress. Stress is the difference between what your expectations of yourself, and the reality of what you can do at any given time. Therefore, by always doing the best that you can at that time, it relieves stress by setting your expectations of your best to what you are constantly doing. Disney’s quote also impacts me because it ensures that I am always working. By living under the mantra that I need to do my best at everything that I do, this discourages laziness and distraction because I am motivated to get involved in everything possible and to do my best at it. This dedication to involvement and leadership is what led me to become the president of Spanish Honor Society, captain of the soccer team, captain of science bowl, and even business lead of the second best high school robotics team in the

One of the most important extracurricular activities I have been a leader in is the JROTC program. This program has provided me with so many opportunities, whether it be to learn about myself or to serve others. For example, my involvement with the color guard helped me develop confidence in my abilities, and therefore helped me learn valuable leadership skills I would later apply to being commander of the team, then personnel adjutant, and ultimately battalion commander. Through being mentored and encouraged by others, I discovered I had the potential to be a leader. As a result of my involvement in the program, I have become more self-confident, and among other things, I have learned the importance of turning failures into success.…

My leadership experiences are one of the most important aspects of my life because being able to contribute to a meaningful cause, as I did with Operation Smile and Wounded Warrior Project, is extraordinarily empowering and essential for character development. Additionally, my leadership experiences were ways of giving back to the community that nurtured me. Participating in Model UN and being a student leader at my church helped me to develop a sense of pride in my own voice, which is something that I hope to impart to others in my community. Cultivating tomorrow’s leaders begins with developing confidence in oneself, which I would always strive towards as a member of the National Honor…

These include renovating the art display case in the vocational building to represent our school’s eagle creed, attending lessons every weekend which indoctrinate leadership skills for students, and joining several extracurricular activities within the school. The most prominent one, however, would be entering high school and seamlessly maintaining and even bettering my grades while in Honors classes.…

I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

Inspiration is a devious, sly occurrence. It slips in and out, especially when you need it the most; moreover, unlike the odd occurrence of inspiration, there is one individual who can halt the disappearance of inspiration itself. To quench the inspiration of our youth and transform it into reality, we have been tasked to invite that person. This is an opportunity that will allow students to consider future career possibilities and learn beneficial life skills; therefore, I suggest that Gordon Ramsey should speak at our school. Gordon Ramsey is a world-renowned chef, and by allowing him to inspire the minds of our youth, his opinionated statements could lead to hundreds of students striving for their dreams.…

In my early years I was a brownie and Girl Scout, and not only did the Girl Scouts teach me about truth and service but it also taught me what it takes to be a great leader. These are qualities that I have kept with me throughout my life and have also given me multiple opportunities where I was able to strengthen them. One of the opportunities being was one of four students chosen to attend S.D.L.C. or the Student Diversity Leadership Conference.
