Personal Narrative: How Summer Changed My Life

Improved Essays
Summer came around and it was time to leave again, I would have thought I would be used to it by now but nothing ever changed. I never got used to leaving each summer having to leave for five months and coming back late each school year was just not what I wanted. Of course, I was a migrant with my parents, both working in the fields to give a better future to my family. I always complained that I didn’t want to leave anymore that I wanted to stay with my family not be alone where my parents worked. As well, I worked as a babysitter because my family needed the extra money so I didn’t have a normal childhood, I took care of the kids that was my childhood.
On the other hand, I had no choice, I had to leave the worst part was the way I fell behind for a while at school because I would arrive late. I would be the outcast of the school at times because I never knew what was going on; I was lost, and I was behind all my peers. Looking back, I remember people wouldn’t talk to me they would see me as the strange new girl, because I would

I now try as if I might fall behind I don’t let anything get in the way of my education because I know my family worked hard to give me the chance to study. I feel that there was no reason to complain because all that made me a stronger person. It was hard at times to leave everything for a while, but at the end of the day it was all for my benefit.
Being a migrant does have its benefits as well because in your school they would help you with homework even with school supplies. As a child, I did not understand why we had to leave, but now I know it was all for me, to receive a better education. It was a challenge being a migrant, but it was all worth it because I became the person I am today, strong and

But, I had to move on, no matter how difficult things that I got, or how badly I wanted to give up. In the beginning, living in America was very frustrating due to the different cultures and environments, loneliness and language barriers. I have a hard time to communicate and socialize with my friends and teachers in school. Fortunately, my parents are very supportive and teach me to keep a positive attitude in dealing with adversity, to be open-minded and patient with people surrounding me. I am not afraid of challenges and obstacles anymore; instead I consider them as opportunities for me to attain success.…

For example, I had to learn how to take care of my younger siblings, and to be responsible for anything like paper from the county for renewing medical and food support, to filing taxes and mortgage papers when we had finally saved enough for a home. Every day was a struggle trying to fit into a foreign culture that I knew nothing of, and which held different values than my own. For example I have struggled with the materialistic nature of American Culture, especially when many of own people from our community had no way to afford many of the things held so valuable here. Yet through all of this, I knew I couldn’t give up, and I would have to lead as an example for my little siblings and other young people in my community. As years pass by I continue to grow and every decision in the family runs through me.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

Montana, the state where winter seems to never go away and spring seems to be only a few weeks and suddenly it is summer and seems even when naked your body is boiling and no matter the amount of ice filled cold water you can’t stay cool enough. Don’t get me wrong I love winters and wouldn’t trade Montana winters for anything in the world but at the same I also am an individual whose moods are highly dependent on the weather and so when the cloudy skies and freezing cold temperatures finally leave I feel like I have been reborn just like a phoenix rising from the ashes. I know spring has finally arrived and my mood will be a great one when I wake up and not only feel the sun’s ray warm my face, which even with the shades down have found a way to creep into the room, and hear the heavenly notes “chick a dee chick a dee” the cute small songbird has left his tree cavity and gladly is outside chirping away letting all and any alike that no longer do they have to savage and enjoy the freshly ripe nuts, fruits, and insects all around them.…

It’s that time of year again. Winter break is right around the corner and the one thing in the way of it are finals. Cramming begins when we have to learn an entire semester’s worth of information into our small over-stimulated brains just long enough for us to retain it for all those papers, tests, or presentations. It’s time for the stress and procrastinations to begin and a nice cold beer once you end.…

Climbing to the Stars At twelve years old I was born again. Being so young I didn’t understand why, but somehow beneath adult phrases I understood it was for the certainty of my future. The transition of moving from my native country to the United States hasn’t been easy. Although, I would be a liar or rather an ignorant if I don't admit the difficulties of a new language, culture, and environment has made me the person I am today. The road to hell is paved with good intentions and I am a living proof of the cliche.…

Not having an exact subject on the curriculum that reflected those interests I plunged into the only subject that seemed similar Geography. I was so enthralled in my class that the changes that were happening in my immediate family did not remove the fog of wonder I had. During that year my father’s job ended because of political changing of the guard, my family home was lost in foreclosure and my mom was moved to the United States so that we could afford things such as my schooling. Slowly my family moved to New York in the course of one summer and I was still oblivious to the fact that I would be leaving my island home. September of that year my parents told me that they could not afford to send me to school anymore and that they have decided to move the whole family to the United States of America.…

Case Study Narrative: On a lazy, sunny, summer day several years ago in St. Joseph, MI, I was recently into my first summer vacation. My first year of full time teaching was complete and I was enjoying some downtime. I had worked with special needs students, students with emotional impairments and students with Autism for several years prior; mostly through community mental health organizations or subbing in local school districts, nothing full time or steady. One thing that I did know was the physical and emotional drain that this work and these students can have on you as a caregiver or teacher, so this aimless and thoughtless day was a welcomed event to a year with a new building, new co-workers, new students, and a new city.…
