Personal Narrative: How My First Grade Changed My Life

We’ve all had experiences that greatly impact our lives. Some have more impact than others, some in good ways and others in bad ways. Regardless of the emotions we assign the experiences, they help shape who we are. The unique views, opinions, habits, character traits, and perceptions we have are molded out of these numerous experiences. I have had so many experiences that have changed the way I view the world, the people in it, and myself. One of these such experiences happened to me when I was just six years old. I was tall and skinny. I had light blonde hair that my mom styled every morning. I was dressed in pink usually, and I was well-liked. I guess you could say I was a popular kid, if there even is such a thing for first graders. I was smart and never got teased. My mom always made sure I had clean clothes, great smelling lotion on, and I would squirt one spray of perfume on my shirt before leaving for school. Andy, on the other hand, did not fare so well. He had a round face that was accented by a soft double chin. His eyes were brown in color. He had kind eyes, but they would look sad or scared often. His hair was short but was never brushed and always had what my mom called “sleep styles.” Sleep styles were the natural cowlick-like hair styles you get while sleeping that go away when your hair gets wet. Andy always had them. He was an average height boy. He always wore a white T-shirt and denim jeans. He was very overweight, and his belly pushed out noticeably under his white shirt. He never smelled very good and would often get asked by other kids if he had farted or pooped his pants. He was not the smartest kid in class, but he wasn’t stupid either.
