Personal Narrative: How Much Separation Is Too Much Lotion

Improved Essays
How much lotion is too much? In my experience, although I'm not a top score student contender, I say I would be in top the 99th percentile in lotion depletion. As a child, I was plagued with severe eczema, it covered my whole body like a lethal venom coursing through my skin. My face was flakier than the most exquisite of artisan made pastries, my arms like sleeves of scaly snake hide, and my entire body was a graveyard of dead skin. I essentially lived as a walking stick of butter because I remember every morning before school my mother would strip me down and slather heaps of sticky Vaseline all over my body. Uncomfortable couldn't even begin to explain the inconveniences this caused and moreover, my classmates would constantly ask, "Why are you so shiny?" …show more content…
Naturally, my parents told me that as I grow up my eczema would go away and get better - - au contraire. In the fourth grade, I contracted a type of dermal herpes due to my weak immune system and soon, a disease that I could barely even pronounce was taking away every ounce of my strength. This happened twice in my life but I later recovered and became more determined to find new ways to effectively treat my condition. My skin tells a story about my life and struggles but this is only one layer of me and I believe that the University of Washington is full of individuals layered with other unique experiences. I want to exchange these stories that define who we are, to be able to learn new ideas and culture as individuals we can never

Coming Up to the Tee The aroma of freshly cut grass fills my nose as I step up to the tee. I swing my club back slowly, blocking out the millions of thoughts running through my mind. Swiftly, I swing down at the ball propelling it forward, straight towards the fairway. Clubs in tow, I head towards my ball as I begin my round of golf.…

Furthermore, something that I found extremely unhelpful during my dyad sessions was the tiny, closed up room we were in. It was overall an awful space to have to communicate comfortably within. During my second session, I remember feeling so closed in, that half way through the session while Breane was talking, I literally wanted to get up and open the door because I felt so uncomfortable. The room was a small square, had plain white walls and no windows. This was not something that was controllable by my helper, but I still felt very uncomfortable because of how trapped it made me feel.…

“The fear of falling apart”, “Words are knives and often leave scars”, and “Don’t try to sleep through the end of the world and bury me alive. Cause’ I won’t give up without a fight” by Panic! At The Disco from their song This is Gospel is very important to me because it’s like saying no matter how hard you push and pull on me I won’t give up and that’s really encouraging to me. The way I can apply it to my life is I was bullied, cursed at, and yelled at all throughout middle school by other students and no matter how hard I wanted to give up and just crawl into bed and say “No, go away.”…

When I was around 4 my skin was probably pretty delicate because of my age, so One day, I was playing outside running around and I slipped on some sand on the ground sliding my knee onto pavement scraping almost the entire skin off the knee. I remember the next part very well because I started bleeding profusely; you could've literally saw the flesh. Luckily I didn't need stitches all it took was a large bandage wrap around my left knee. When the skin finally healed, it left a scar; to this day though, the scar is now hardly noticeable and very small in size. I once burned myself with the car cigarette lighter when I was young.…

The bell rang for lunch time, the students ushered out, and into the cafeteria like wild animals.…

So far in my past three years of being at WSU, I have dealt with some very stressful and traumatic experiences, but it was always school and being surrounded by my professors and classmates that kept me focused on maintaining my grades and taking advantage of every opportunity WSU had to offer me. Overcoming these challenges while in school, like a sexual assault, was difficult and overwhelming, but I know that I would not have been able to do it without the support of all those I was surrounded by, and I believe it is these experiences that have made me a better student today. I want to advocate and be an ally for other students who have experienced these types of challenges, so they know that WSU will always offer its support and guidance, and refuses to let anyone just simply fail. I also have a confident and determined attitude, and refuse to simply give up during tough times that require extra work, time, and dedication, but instead believe that it is these qualities that build a strong individual who is able to thrive in any situation. I am also an effective problem solver, even when unorganization, time, and place is a consideration, because one must not allow insignificant factors like these, alter their chances of…
